Are entertainment centers/wall units still in vogue?
Comments (47)I think the outdated look is the one where the entertainment center is too big for the room. When it overwhelms everything in the room and is the center of attention. That "look" is outdated but the actual entertainment centers are not IMO. Here are a couple pics of mine. It's huge. But the room is huge and is open to the kitchen and the ceiling is 18' tall so the room isn't overwhelmed by the furniture's mass. I've included a full view of my room just to illustrate that there are other more important things to look at in the room than just the entertainment center. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!...See MoreCenter Armoire on Table or Wall?
Comments (20)I would try centering it on the wall minus door, but I've found that sometimes you have to cheat something like that in one direction or the other for function or for a balanced appearance. Our bed isn't quite centered on the wall because of the traffic flow to the bathroom on one side, but we also have a bay on the other side, so it sure looks centered. If you don't want to paint the table top, try working on it with some Restor-A-Finish. If that is dried on paint on it, you might need to use some very, very fine steel wool with it and buff it with the grain. You can get the paint off but I'm not sure how good the rest of the finish is. Restor-A-Finish would be a starting point to see how much you can bring back what was there without stripping. It might even bring the base back to life -- then just polish those brass feet. If the finish on the top is in too bad a condition to restore, would you consider painting the top and leaving the legs stained? It's a beautiful table and I'm glad you gave it a new home. You are going to enjoy it, but I'd tell people where you got it after dinner is done. ;-) As to whether the vases will be too much with your plates, I think if you start with the vases and then add the plates around them you can decide where you saturation point is. Or you could use the plates in a more whimsical pattern like that photo above and leave more room for the vases. For the armoire -- try goo-gone to remove the crayon markings. Or more crayons -- then it's an art piece. :D...See Moreoff centered fireplace, wall with no windows need furniture advice!
Comments (33)Hey everyone! It’s been a while since I posted updates and to be honest there isn’t too much to report at the moment! Trying to figure out where to put ducts for central air. I’m attaching some photos I thought you might like :) the first is what the beams look like inside the walls and what I’m hoping the ones exposed will look like when they stain is rubbed out. The second pic is the original flooring upstairs (dusty from construction). It’s called pumpkin pine flooring and that’s the flooring I want to put on the ground level kitchen and sitting room. Then a picture from the notching looking at the stone room, and vice versa! Hope everyone is healthy and safe ❤️...See MoreHow to decorate my den with a large wall behind an off-centered couch
Comments (22)I considered everyone's ideas and suggestions and decided to rearrange the room as such, which looks much better. The pictures make the room look cluttered, but it is not. There is still so much space. My daughter was in awe when she first saw it. I still need to raise the curtains, purchase a neutral color rug, wall art, pillows, lamps, and plants and play around with the other items in the room before it is complete. Despite it not being finished, I am delighted with the new layout. It is warmer, cozier, and inviting. Let me know what you think. Good, bad, and ugly. I am not a decorator, so I am always open to constructive criticism. Thank you for taking the time to help me figure out how to rearrange and decorate this room. I recently purchased my home and will definitely need assistance, as you can tell. LOL Be on the lookout for more posts....See Morelaurafhallen
