Recommendations for Wood Cabinet Color Coordinating with Stone Top

Hello - any recommendations or ideas for *painted* colors to coordinate with this countertop? Having trouble finding a good color. I'd like to accentuate the brown and mute the reddish tone in it.

I'm thinking somewhere in the mocha spectrum, leaning towards darker. Or light variant of charcoal

Disregard the other colors in the room - they'll all be changing (including the flooring).

Just looking for coordinating colors with the countertops

Any help or ideas would be appreciated :)

I must say that I like the cabinet better than the counter, so I would be changing the counter.

However, that's not what you are interested in.

You want the cabinet to coordinate with not only the countertop, but also the floor, and the tile work in the shower. Would you consider posting pictures of what you are considering?

I agree, the cabinet is good, the counter is not.

Allison, thanks for the link, the color of the window trim, with the polyeurathane finish on is the natural wood. It's pretty light. This is a picture of my front door, unfinished as of yet, but I want it in a deep rosewood color: and this is a pictue of my alder doors, unfinished as of yet,: and this is a picture of the fireplace with one of the windows that has the clear poly finish next to it, I will take a close up picture of it today, but it's the clear in the picture allison showed in the link: This is a picture showing where the trifold doors will go (they are unfinished alder and look like the door pictured above), the windows to the left and right are clear alder with the poly coat on them, notice the beam running across the room, it will be exposed, as well as the beam running the length of the room: Is this a delima or am I just over reacting? wood island top - should it match the wood floor color?

I have had wood island countertops in 2 kitchens now and love them. I would only use John Boos Hard Rock Maple with the oiled finish. It is super easy upkeep, and allows you to cut right on the countertop. The oiled finish is just an easy rub in/ rub off application. When the counter is new you need to do this about once a week for about a month, then after that about quarterly. It is so nice to have a fully useful counter. Just yesterday I fixed 35 pounds of pulled pork and did all the "pulling" and chopping right on the counter. So nice. current house: previous house:

Ok, so my DH brought it home and..... I don't like it :( Sometimes things have a way of growing on me but I don't think that this will. And, of course, the cabinet isn't finished yet so it's a bit hard to see it and judge with the cabinet looking the way it does above rather than the rest of the cabinets. My complaints - I think it'll be too dark. It's the darkest thing in the kitchen and it's basically the longest uninterrupted stretch of counter (the area next to it is 112 but that includes the sink) so it seems very visually prominent. I'm not a huge fan of the strips of wood next to the strips of wood in the floor. The finish on it is pretty shiny and somehow it appears very lifeless and flat - DH commented that it looks like laminate! I realize that this could be changed with a different finish on it. The positives - it looks really nice with the dark wainscotting in the dining room. It's not in the dining room of course but the view through is nice. The wood itself is pretty gorgeous. The colors and patterns are SO pretty. I'm thinking now that I need a different wood species. I think I'd prefer something that's more in keeping with the colors in the floor. Anyone have any recommendations? I'm thinking about sapele, mahogany, cherry, teak and maple. I think I'd probably prefer a plank style so that it's not as visually similar to the floor. Any thoughts or recommendations are appreciated!!

IMO if you are doing walnut cabinets I would not mix those with wood look tile and I love walnut and white together so I would do the Alaska white counter with walnut floors through the whole house including the kitchen and a simple white backsplash in a larger format subway tile.The pic in your idea book with the diagonal tile for a backsplash is a very dated look. Maybe give us a bit more info into your style. I am a contemporary designer so my suggestions tend to lean in that direction.

Wanting to try to save the countertop - it's the same in all of the bathrooms throughout the house. It looks a bit better when it's polished. They haven't been well taken care of :-/ but I agree, the color isn't the most eye pleasing

I would try and find a remnant and replace the countertop. It is bossing you around, and you will be spending more money trying to decorate around it than if you just replace it up front. And, I for one, don’t think all your counters need to match. I see that as reading “I got a HUGE batch of XYZ countertop material and need to use it in all the bathrooms.” Each bathroom is unique. Price out all that you plan on doing to “match” the countertop vs. getting one new remnant/counter top. Do the math.

I can understand feeling like it’s a waste to remove a counter that’s in perfectly good condition, but if you change it to a simple white, you may save yourself expense of replacing floors, etc.

A simple white solid surface like Corian or LG HiMacs would be reasonably priced.

Also, you may be able to donate the counter to Habitat ReStore or sell it on Craigslist.
