Does the wood color on the island chairs need to match he cabinets?
Comments (23)Lovely kitchen! I agree with others those bar stools aren't working though. Since the dining room table will be close by the island, I might do something different in color to set them off. What about a molded Eames-style chair in a bright color? I don't particularly care for the color below, but they come in a host of colors, and you can get ones that swivel: Depending on what color your back splash is, I think this peacock blue color would work well in your space: I have the chair version of these in white as our dining room table chairs and have two young kids are the are easy to wipe down and worry-free....See MoreShould kitchen cabinet color match wood flooring?
Comments (17)Your kitchen sounds lovely! I am using quartersawn white oak on my cabinets and I think you will love the rift sawn (I was torn between QS and rift sawn, both are beautiful and so different from the oak cabs I took out). With your floors being red oak, they are trying to pull warmer/redder. Are your cabinets red or white oak? I lean toward weathered oak stain because I like the warmth it gives. Your floors are likely plain sawn and just the cabs are rift sawn? That will impact how the stain looks as well. Maybe a 90% weathered with 10% gray would be a good mix? https://www.houzz.com/discussions/duraseal-weathered-oak-and-classic-gray-dsvw-vd~2374805...See Morefloor debacle. should woods all match?
Comments (17)I feel like the hardwoods in the kitchen don’t go well with the cherry cabinets? I then have that huge hickory unit in the living room so I just wonder what hardwood color I could place throughout that would work with all of it? I definitely do not like the orange tone of the dining and office floor. The kitchen is yet another type, more of a brown with some red to it and a wider plank. A lot of them are hollow and lifting so we do plan on removing all of that anyways. Honestly at this point I’m thinking maybe I should remove the dining and office floors and just start all from scratch rather than buy new and then refinish all of that. I’m a little scared of the refinishing mess!! Would love any hardwood color suggestions. The sturdier the better too as we have very active dogs!...See MoreWhat color rug, paint, and wood floors should I use? All walnut wood.
Comments (52)You've got some nice wood pieces. Did your father make most all of them? Regarding the paint color. I always feel paint color should be decided once everything is selected. I'm guessing that the Builder has a couple of paint selections that were chosen to go with the finishes that are being offered so if I were you at this point I would make notes as you are doing but wait to see what you select for the other finishes and then see if the Builder's paint colors will work for you. If none of them do, at that point you can determine if you are going to "up-grade" (he may not even offer the opportunity for you to stray from the color choices) or just paint the walls a non-descriptive color and have them painted later with your own painter. When is your meeting at the Design Center?...See Moreremodel-mama
