I have white molding and trim and decided to go with ORB (and I love it). I think it somewhat depends on what look you want. I was going for a real traditional look. I think polished nickel will give you a more formal look. Black might be great, but it will be a very strong look. I used Baldwin. It may be more expensive than Emtek (depending where you get it), but I talked to a couple of decorative hardware stores that carry both, and both steered me away from Emtek due to quality issues. Having said that, my builder uses Emtek all the time and was unaware of any clients that have complaints. I did ORB throughout the house for door knobs, handles but mixed in other finishes for cabinet knobs and bath fixtures.

A huge THANK YOU for all who posted. It helped me more than you know, I really appreciate the help. I thought about the yellow with the beige as well and I know yellow makes beige look dirty unless its a super light beige. I thought the Hearts of Palm was just what I needed, its a feel good color, and I realize I have that color in accents in other places, and it really coordinates well with the rest of my house. I would have ruled it out on my own as being too bright but once I did a large sample on the wall I loved it. I wanted my bedroom to be cozy and happy looking and I think it will do very well and looks great with white. So thanks again, maybe I will get up the nerve to post once I am done, although I have some things to be done before I paint. But just wanted to make sure I let everyone know how much it helped me.

Thank you SH! Those really do help me visualize how each would look. Thanks also for everyone who posted picks, I have a hard time visualizing things, which is why I'm having this current problem. I also agree with the person who mentioned the lighter colors not looking as good for as long as the darks. So many I've looked at that are lighter have dark streaking going on. I'd like to avoid that if possible. Dh says we should go more brown, but I like how the blacks bring out the grey tones in the stone. However, I do love the first mock up! I guess I need to decide which "look" I'm going for. I just don't know! I'm wanting an old world feel to it for sure. I was thinking the black walnut would be a good way to stay dark but still get the brown tones. But with that first mock up, it really says "old world" more than the black, doesn't it? I also was concerned about the roof looking busy, like it would compete with the stone in some way. Oh and the whole house will be done in the stone, if that helps. Here is another picture of the house with the stone on it and a black roof. These are the type of shingles we'll most likely be using, do you see any browns there that would work? I'd go with dark grey. It would make a beautiful contrast.
