Debating shingles vaccine, not vaccines, just the timing on this one!
Comments (57)The health dept. told me there were two pharmacies offering Shingrix in my community, CVS and one other regional chain one. My doctor is on haitus all month and I'm still debating on jumping ship. Either way, it will be at least a month before I can get any services from a personal physician. I still haven't heard back from my insurance company about coverage of the Shingrix, but I'll extrapolate from hubs experience with Aetna supplemental and project that it will be expensive for the vaccine and minimal if any coverage by my insurance company. I don't think my coverage will be better than his. But I have to find out for sure before I can maybe pursue some special program through our health department. But I'll bet that too will be minimal support. They need our money and have us over a barrel, so there you have it....See MoreAre you eliglble to get the Covid vaccine now? If so, have you?
Comments (95)Happy to say got our 2nd Pfizer doses today. As i have said before in other threads, I felt like it was a scavenger hunt. I followed every rumor, signed up every where I could. When it seemed that I really got us appointments I was still thinking it wasn't going to be. The only good thing i can say is that at least for us, the dispensing was so incredibly well run and orderly. We had 12:15 appointment , got there about 5 minutes ahead, waited maybe 5 minutes and got our shots. There were no long lines, but a constant steady light flow. It seems they have it together. They don't really examine what time your appointment is but just confirm that you are scheduled for the day. That way it flows nicely. So , so far only a little soreness on my arm as I had last time. Hopefully that will be it. YAY....See MoreCovid Vaccines aka The Hunger Games
Comments (0)It is nearly impossible to get an appointment for a covid vaccine here in PA. It is like a real-life hunger games. For example, there are only five CVS stores in the ENTIRE state that offer the vaccine. that is laughably inadequate. (For perspective, CVS has 57 stores in Philly alone.) Then there is Rite Aid. Yes, they have a lot more stores with the vaccine than CVS, but not nearly enough to go around and using the website is incredibly frustrating. Rite Aid will make appointments available around midnight to 4 am and only a few at a time. You have no idea where the appointments are, you just keep clicking on different zip codes and then individual stores. Only the very quickest, and luckiest, get the appointments and they don't hold them while you type in your info. There are techy ways to game the system, but I can't imagine how our non tech savvy seniors do it. Of course you can always go on wait lists, but be forewarned, one waitlist at a pharmacy near me has over 30K people on it. I called a hospital appointment line for my county (DH is eligible) and was on hold for 7.5 hours, only to find they ran out. (And I called the very second the call center opened. ) It's absolutely horrible how badly PA is handling this. Thank goodness there are legions of appointment finders who are volunteering their time to help those who will fall through these giant cracks in the system. Vent kind of over. Hope it is better where you all live....See MoreSon's wife and mil fully vaccinated have covid
Comments (35)Sal, I hope your family members are improving! Good news about the Provincetown Covid outbreak (after a superspreader event): 833 infections, 7 hospitalizations, 0 deaths. 74% of the positives tests were in people who were fully vaccinated. The hospitalizations were in people with underlying conditions. Vaccines work! This shows that despite the very communicable variant, Delta, very few people became seriously ill.
