Help! Need granite suggestions for honey oak cabinets
Comments (9)I too have golden/honey oak cabinetry & after almost 6 weeks of going to local slab yards & warehouses I decided to go with Madura gold granite for my countertops. But, with that being said, I highly suggest the same thing that others have suggested. Go to as many places as possible to see the actual slab, not just a sample in a showroom or online, because being that granite is a natural stone, one Madura gold (for example) can look very different from another Madura gold, it all depends on the different "bundles" & at which time it arrived at the slab yard. Find out what times & days your local slab yard pulls slabs & don't be afraid to ask them to pull more than one slab, so that you can see more than just the front slab. Some of our other favorites were "golden oak", "tuscan sunset" & "crema bordeaux", the crema bordeaux can vary greatly in it's color though, but is so beautiful. Each of these for me, here in ohio, ran roughly &50-$60 a sq ft, just to give you an idea of cost in my area. I hope this helps a little & good luck....See MoreAnyone with Colonial cream granite? Do you love it?
Comments (7)I selected Colonial Cream based on a sample I had seen in a showroom, but when I actually looked at the slabs, I picked colonial gold, which is similiar. I really like it. I also considered Cabria Quartz Buckingham which has a similiar look, but maybe a bit more movement. You can look for that quartz in A2gemini's finished kitchen. One thing I will mention is Colonial Gold is very blendy and it is hard to see spills, crumbs, etc. and I often clean up and later see I've missed a spot. Another consideration is that different lots vary greatly. I love the granite I selected from an old lot, but the newer shipment of the same stone did not appeal to me at all. It had alot more grey in the stone. Here is a picture of my colonial gold:...See MoreHow does Colonial Cream granite look in my kitchen??
Comments (15)I agree with cpartist. Most granites are always going to be competing with your backsplash. (Including that original granite.) I don't think you need a solid color necessarily, but something that is much simpler than most granites. I really like a lot of Ceasarstone quartz patterns. They are are simple with just a little interest, and they have a lot of pretty natural colors so you could hopefully find one that is a color match. I agree with your idea of going lighter. Some brown/tan Quartzites (not quartz) might work also if you find some slabs that are fairly uniform. But I would look at quartz. It would help give you the more transitional look you want than the granite with the rest of the elements in your kitchen....See Morebacksplash with yellow river granite and honey oak cabinets
Comments (13)I do not have the same countertop, but cream does look pretty with oak cabinets. Oak cabinets have some "movement" to them due to the grain and so does your countertop. If the backsplash also has movement, even if it is pretty on its own, the look will be too busy - no place for the eye to rest. Make sure to either remove the microwave, tile behind and replace it or reserve enough tile to tile behind it later should you choose a hood rather than an over the range microwave. As a short person who does not like a crowded cooking space, I would change the micro for a hood, but you may have a different preference or want to wait till the microwave breaks down.
