Baseboards and Casings with Shaker Style Interior doors
Comments (3)We are doing the same thing, installing 3 panel solid shaker doors, but have 3.5 inch trim around a lot of our existing windows that has more detail. Would it be best to match that trim for consistency on the doors or can you mix trims and go more flat and simple on doors? We plan on installing new 5.25 high baseboard that is plain except for one detail at the top....See Morebungalow interior doors: all 5 panel or some 3 panel accent doors?
Comments (18)My door got trimmed a bit to fit and get rid of some dings so the hinge mortises got trimmed off. Procrastinator that I am, I never got around to putting the pull hardware on and just used the hole left from the knob. There was a recessed cup pull I had my eye on to use though. It would have completely taken care of my knob hole. It would depend on what type of knob and lock set was on your door. One edge on each door will probably never be seen anyway once the trim is on....See MoreReviews of Door to Door Company Atlanta or other shaker interior doors
Comments (7)My neighbor near my last house bought all of his interior doors at Menards against his builders wishes. How do I know that? We had the same builder. A few years later most of the doors were coming off the hinges. That was about 2005. Maybe they have improved but I would not take the chance....See MorePros and cons of having a door casing under a barn door
Comments (17)Sliding doors (aka "barn doors") are terrific problem solvers in certain circumstances. I have a slider between my small mudroom/laundry room and kitchen and it is what works there because of the small space and layout. But, I can't see a reason you need a slider to solve a particular problem, and you don't have room on that one wall in the kitchen proper anyway. Also remember that the back side of a slider isn't that attractive -- even when the door is finished nicely, the view from the room on the back side is kinda weird because the door sits atop the wall in the other room. In my case I don't care since the backside of my door is the laundry room, but in your case for one between the kitchen and the other room, even if there's enough space for a slider on the wall in the adjoining room, it's not going to look that great from the kitchen side. A pocket door isn't either, although the pocket would be better than the slider in this case. Why do you even need a door between the kitchen and the other room? Keep a regular door on the other two off the eating area, those aren't problem areas in need of a solution. If you don't like the looks of those particular doors, there is a seemingly endless choice of attractive interior doors....See MoreAlice Edwards
