Not a fan of most Indian food that I have tried. I like samosas. But I don't like them enough to try to make them myself. I don't really even like them enough to go out of the way to get some.

Naan. I do like Naan. Garlic naan.

I don't make any myself, but I love Indian food, especially pakoras and samosas, rogan josh, and masala dosas.

The difficulty that I have had is first knowing what an ingredient actually is because some of the cookbooks I have use local names for some of the ingredients then locating them. Then grinding them small enough that they actually combine together. My mortar and pestle work is better than my coffee/spice grinder but they still feel like grit when eating. Indian food is one of the types that by the time I have all of the ingredients it is less expensive in better times to explore some of the Indian and Pakistani restaurants in this area.

I love Indian food, and attempt it occasionally. We don't have anywhere in our little town to get it 😢. I do often make curry, and I've tried my hand at paneer. Easy to make, but for what you get it's easier to buy it.

How do you eat your dal? We most often put it over rice.

Dal makhani, curried red lentils, curried cauliflower, butter chicken, palak paneer. Those are the only recipes I have but am always looking for more, really want a good chana masala recipe. I also make my own curry powder and garam masala.

Yes, with a spoon in a bowl. Mine had a thick consistency like a thick soup or stew.

Oh, I love dal. Like you say, it is comfort food - especially served with a nice flatbread. I also love palak paneer. I make it myself, but enjoy getting it for take out more. You just reminded me that I made a big batch of tamarind sauce. I should make Indian food this week to use it up.

We have a few good Indian restaurants in town, but only me and one sibling like Indian, so we don't get it very often. The international grocery carries all sorts of Indian spice packets that are very good. DH can't eat them often because they are chock full of salt, and he needs to limit his salt intake. "Sujata Parampara" sauce mixes are my favorites, the easiest for me to cook.

I often make different curries as we love Indian food. Curry puffs and samosas used to be one of my go-to party finger foods back when we went to parties more. And DH didn't like rice pudding until I started making an Indian version.

Here in Oz Indian food is like Mexican food is in the US- there's a lot of it because we have a lot of immigrants from that area. By contrast, Mexican food is seen as trendy and exotic.

I love Aloo Gobi! And I like just about anything with curry, not just Indian dishes. Today I made cauliflower, chickpea and chicken coconut curry for the first time. It was good, but I think I'll have to use more red curry paste.

A co-worker gave me a chicken tikka masala recipe that I use; it's not difficult, but it is good. I also pick up a few frozen items from Trader Joe's. Their frozen naans are good to have on hand. They also have simmer sauces that I have not tried yet. I do have a TJ packaged daal that I have not yet tried.

I love Indian food, but rarely attempt it. There are some Indian inspired things in my repertoire. but they're definitely American food. I adore saag, but the only way I like dal is with cream, and I can only eat a spoonful because I don't like that much cream. (I don't like lentils in general.) We have an amazing Indian restaurant near my house, which disincentivizes my attempts. The layers of spices are exquisite. I do have The Book, which was recommended in the forum, but have yet to essay it. I'm sure the results will be much better than previous recipes I've tried.

I have a saag paneer or palak paneer recipe that is easy, and delicious. It is not especially authentic because I have never made (or even bought) actual paneer to use in the dish. I'll look for the recipe if anyone is interested.

Like Colleen, we eat a lot of Indian food. It's a big part of British culture. I have a magical tin with 4 spice mixes in it, and a recipe book that uses them. It means I'm not buying endless spices that grow old.

A typical meal would be onion bahjis, poppadoms and kachumber, a fresh salad, then a korma, pasanda, rogan Josh......with a veg curry and a dhal, served with a pineapple or mango chutney, rice, naan......

The only indian dishes I've made are Butter Chicken (aka Chicken Masala I believe) and Chana Masala. Both are pretty savory.

Working in the IT field I have a large number of Indian co-workers. Some of the food they bring for lunch will literally run me out of my office due to the smell. I think those dishes are usually from northern Indian cuisine. The Indian workers host a Diwali lunch every year (except 2020!) and I always try a few new things I've never had before.

Yesterday I made mango chicken curry with coconut milk. It's my favorite recipe. I used the last of the hot peppers we got from a neighbor who had a bumper crop last summer. Apart from a couple of other curry dishes, I don't cook Indian food. We have a fairly large Indian community in the area, hence a good choice of restaurants. My favorite used to have a buffet that satisfied any Indian food craving all in one fell swoop.

I like Indian food, used to work near an Indian takeout restaurant and we often had awesome lunches in the breakroom! I've tried making Indian at home, and I'm not very good at it, and don't have the patience for most of it. I love palak paneer but can't get paneer and am unlikely to make it at home . . . I've done tumeric rice which I love, and a couple of the usual vegetable curries. I also do curried red lentil soup. I've tried a few other dals and it has just been a "meh" for me . . . Another dish I've attempted is mango chicken curry. So just the basics. I love a meal with a good dal, some vegetable curries and raita with naan or chapattis but I would be very unlikely to make a complex meal like that at home. One curry with rice or a dal soup with store bought naan is about as exotic as I am likely to get . . .
