We don't know if the thugs knew who the dogs belonged to. But assuming the neighborhood, they probably know the dogs belong to someone well-heeled.

But wouldn't offering a half a million dollar 'reward' encourage more behavior like this?

Per the TV news yesterday, there have been other recent Frenchie thefts in LA recently. In one case, thieves made an appointment to see the puppies, then stole them by force. They are expensive, and times are tough.

That really is just so horrible. The poor dog walker, terrorized and shot. Dog napping? What has this world come to. I have heard of other incidents of dogs being stolen for resale. Lots of people want dogs right now, especially retain breeds. Crazy. Yes, I hope they were chipped.

It's horrible and everything that's wrong in the world- but I will just toss this idea out there. Does it trouble anyone else that she is offering $500.000 reward for the return of her dogs? It seems a bit out of order to me.

I might have missed it but has she offered any reward for the apprehension of the person(s) who shot her dog walker?

I have no idea about any of Gaga's performances, recent or otherwise, but on Friday, the LAPD released a description of both suspects; they were described as black males between 20 and 25. The car they were driving was a Nissan Altima.

Also, the dogs have been recovered. A woman, not thought to be connected to the crime, turned the dogs into the LAPD.

For 500K I'd give her MY French bull dog.

I am always a little disheartened when I see people give less thought to human lives than animal lives.

The proper action from Lady Gaga should have been to offer a reward for info on the people who shot her dog walker.... not a reward for info on the dogs.

The only way she'd get her dogs back would be if the dognappers let them run free or gave them to perfect strangers to return, not daring to do it themselves or through people who knew them ... as they'd get charged with attempted murder.

I didn't really see it as her caring more about the dogs than the dog walker. The whole "no questions asked" thing sounds like a set up, as I bet people are more willing to turn over dogs for money than to turn themselves or someone they know for attempted murder charges. My guess is that she was working with law enforcement to figure out the best way to catch whoever did this, and since it was robbery, an excessive cash reward is enticing to the people involved. It seems like a better way to get them to mess up and expose themselves in their greed than just offering a cash reward for their capture. She's never struck me as someone cold-hearted.

I think the hype about the reward for the dogs and not the dogwalker is the media not Lady Gaga.

They’re described as two black males between the ages of 20 and 25 who were last seen in dark clothing. The gunman has blond dreadlocks, police said.

I love Lady Gaga and am so glad these dogs were recovered. She has a close relationship with the walker and am sure he'll be well compensated for his trauma.

Circling back to say I was really put off with what seemed like a focus on her offer of 500K for the dogs and only mention that the dog walker was injured ( and seriously too). Now I do think it was a large part how it was reported and the media put the focus on the reward etc..........I think @C Marlin is correct/

But Gaga is a master of hype & exploiting the media. She got the attention she was seeking.

This is the first time that I've heard of someone offering up a half a million dollars in ransom for dogs. History in the making!

I just heard on the news that the woman who returned her dogs to the LA police department found them tied to a pole in an alley. She's now $500,000 richer.

Yeah. She paid some thugs to shoot her friend and dog walker four times. Yeah, Right.

It's so bizarre. Everything about this case is just so strange. How someone (or 2 people?) shoot someone to take dogs and then leave them tied up outside in an alley.............and then someone stumbles on them and returns them. I am glad the dog walker is recovering and I am glad the dogs were returned unharmed. How can the police determine so quickly that the returner of the dogs had nothing to do with it?

No, Odd turn of mind to think that. I was commenting about some of the posts suggesting that the media was hyping the story. That Gaga knows how to generate hype (Meat Dress, Costume Dressing while exiting hotels, naked strolls, etc.) and knew that half a million dollar reward/ ransom would create a LOT of hype. (Where the news of yet another crime against a celebrity is met with a lot of ho-hums. Seems like every other day, a celeb's house gets broken into, cash & jewelry is stolen...rinse & repeat.)

I totally understand & empathize with her desperately wanting to recover the dogs. Only issue I have is the 'no questions asked' and size of the reward/ ransom because I see it as fueling more of the same. Stealing dogs suddenly starts looking a lot more lucrative.

And, in this particular case, it diverted attention away from the real victim, the poor loyal servant who got shot.

If the reporting is accurate--that the dog walker resisted handing over the dogs, there is also a lesson that is being overlooked. That is, to pick your battles. Especially when the other guy has a gun.

I think the size of the reward is evidence that she’s had so much money for so long that she does not relate to the value of a dollar. She has disconnected because nothing is beyond her means.

Socks, she is part owner with other family of a restaurant in Manhattan. Her dad set up a Go Fund Me page supposedly for the purpose of paying restaurant staff due having to close because of the pandemic. Which leads me to doubt that she is out of touch with the value of a dollar.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Gaga's dog walker, too.

The Go Fund Me for the restaurant was not well received. It made Lady Gaga and her family look cheap and greedy. Many people thought Lady Gaga's father should have asked her for money since she is financially involved in the business.

I don't doubt that Lady Gaga will personally and financially help out her dog walker. The Go Fund Me is very basic and won't cover very much. Since they only requested $7000 and that goal has not been met yet, it would appear that mainly it is friends contributing.
