Please help! We are getting ready to purchase for our living room and trying to figure out which configuration will look best in our living room. We have an open floor plan, but like to feel the separation between the rooms. Some of our desires are to maximize seating, we would love one full size leather couch, and one/two leather chairs/recliners at a minimum. Also, we need a table beside the fireplace to store dvds, etc. We have temporarily placed our server table beside the fireplace to get a feel for the size. I have attached 3 separate pics of our living room and two configurations we are considering. Any suggestions would be helpful as we redesign the entire room with furniture and decor.

This could work well for you if scaled to your space. These are swivel chairs, but the front two nearest the TV could be swivel/glider/recliners if you prefer. You could do this grouping with just two chairs as well. I would move the TV to the right wall by the FP and put your DVD storage below it, adding beautiful art above the mantel. Get a fan without a light kit and add more floor and table lamps. You could use a nice plant in the corner left of the window.

Begin by placing the sofa on the LONG wall. Here is the layout I would recommend.

I would also consider cutting back the carpet and extending the hard surface flooring at the entry.

Unfortunately, our other potential space is our living room which is small. I'd like to keep it upstairs as the finished basement is the playroom. Good suggestion, though. I pushed the chairs back towards the fireplace a little more and it's not bad. Is it an issue that the sofa isn't centered on the TV? Do I need a larger area rug? We may change the carpet to some type of faux hardwood, so I think an area rug still makes sense. Would a coffee table look good with this arrangement is the two end tables? It would be centered on the sofa, which would be off center from the TV.

Put TV on the wall where the circle mirror is. Float the sofa facing it and place the two chairs right and left of the sofa, facing each other over a coffee table.

Nice large window and hardwood floors! Here's a few things to think about: 1 Turn the rug so the long side is facing the sofas. Then bring the sofas in closer off the walls and have the front leg sit on the rug. 2 A coffee table 3. Bring the two teal chairs closer to the sofas to create a conversation area and not block the lovely fireplace. 4. Remove the mirrors (They are hung too high) and get one large piece of art 5. Try longer curtains that just touch the floor, maybe in teal . Two panels per side. 6 Does the chair that is suspended from the ceiling have to stay?

You didn’t mention if you have furniture that you have to work with. Suggest creating an on line room planner to size and include structural components. If you have a sectional, place L in front of window/facing fireplace. If couch, chairs or loveseat, place couch under window and other facing fireplace. TV would be on wall facing window. If you are buying new, room planner will help with size, shape and layout as well. Ideas below style wise may not resonate, but hope the concepts help (set up below would be in reverse). I’d definitely cover radiator (lots of ideas on Pinterest) to create a console feel (pull couch away slightly) and add a rug to ground seating. In regards to TV, look at ideas for shelving, or bookcase that is proportional to wall and size of TV. Could add benches under small windows for more balance.

Thank you! Would you recommend angling the chair in front of the window towards the TV and keep the other 2 straight/slightly tilted towards one another? If we decided to get two couches (one in front of the wall and one where the 2 chairs) are would that be too much?

Get the 2 chairs swivel so they can angled towards TV when watching and towards sofa when conversing. And definitely move the TV to right of FP. It is overpowering over the FP

The chairs perp to the TV should swivel. If they do, a table between won't work as well, since it may impede swiveling.
