I would look into solar tubes / tubular skylights instead. Some can have one roof cutout split into multiple ceiling lights.

That's interesting! I had a contractor come in an suggest solar tubes but another one suggested skylight.

I would expect traditional skylights to be more expensive: larger hole, more labor, bigger cost for window. If I were in the market, I'd go for solar tube: smaller hole, less leaks.

Since this is a bedroom, I don't find the level of light in your photo objectionable. Do you really need more natural light during the day when most bedrooms are vacant?

That's a bit of a fallacy, either will leak if not installed properly and would not be the reason I would chose one over the other. Both have their place. Single story I assume? How high is the attic or space above? Would you need to vault? How old is the roof? Would you try and keep the skylites in between the current roof rafters?

neither are a perfect way to handle a bedroom but I think bedrooms do not need tones of natural light since most are not used during the day.I am not sure about how this would pass code since it has no actual egress to the outside. Is this a guest space ?

Solar tubes are ok for spaces where you lack natural lights because you cannot have windows. If you look into a solar tube you will not see anything. If you look into a skylight you will see the sky and get plenty of additional natural light.

Skylights are good over the tub while soaking you can look at the sky or the stars, or bedroom over the bed instead of looking at the mirror :-) (but if you a light sleeper, you will not get any sleep if it's raining at night, you will hear water pounding on the glass) or family room while reading and you look up and see the sky, etc.

Solar tubes intended for dark spaces, bathrooms with no windows, hallways, walking closets, etc.
