(BUt they didn't think to show the drain pipe coming out of it sideways so you would never know unless someone told you ... !) Alternative: Go to mountainplumbing.com click on kitchen click on the first link there. It's kitchen sink strainers. look at the options, and you'll see "Remote Pop-Up" Again it shows the thingie that sticks out sideways instead of downhill. Again, this is what the drain pipe gets stuck into. and that is how you get your kitchen sink drain to be redirected at a low cost. It actually takes up less space than the product called a drain elbow. So, if you want to save space, this is a solution. Compact plumbing. (compact DWV plumbing). it just so happens that a "remote drain pop-up" assembly gives you a tight-elbow bend without asking for it. It's an advantage they didn't ever think of showing. The manufacturers of this device have totally missed showing that it enables one to have a drawer base under the sink. They don't even think of showing you that the drain comes out sideways. on youtube they have bathroom pop-up videos, but nothing for the kitchen yet. Bathroom pop-ups do not send the pipe sideways. (And I don't know why not). here are some more web search results. searching using "elkay LKAD35" you get to see a complete Z-shaped drain pipe. I'm fairly certain that Once you've seen a photo of a drain pipe zigzagging like a Z (or half of a swastika) you'll wonder why in the world you needed to SEE the image. It is quite simple to imagine and to draw without any previous experience. Here it is on the ELKAY web site. As long as you include at least a 12" cab between sink and DW, you'll be fine. DWs installed right next to the sink don't provide enough floor space to stand at the sink when the DW is open. Unfortunately, there are plenty of examples of that on houzz. I have a corner sink with a DW setup like the one above. The only reason I'm getting rid of my corner sink is because I wanted more room between sink and cook top (I'm moving cook top from the island to the perimeter) and the only way to gain enough space was to eliminate the corner sink in favor of a standard corner and the sink next to the corner on the adjacent run. One downside, especially if you're short: it's hard to clean the deep counter behind a corner sink. If you recess it like this one, that's not as much of an issue. The other plus with recessing it is that you gain a wider counter edge at the sink. The downside is that it's really only usable by one person at a time. Some will say that is true for all corner sinks but DH and I haven't had a problem sharing our corner sink. It's cozy but doable. ;)

I've had Cambria quartz for three years now, and I love it. It's impervious! Red wine, beets, curry, whatever -- nothing stains this stuff. No chips or scratches or other damage. I've dropped a jar of jam on it; nothing heavier that I can recall, though. I rest pot lids on it all the time with no problem, but I do always use a trivet for hot pots or pans -- long-standing habit, with my old formica! -- so I can't speak to the potential for damage from those. My only (minor) complaint is that I unwittingly chose a pattern that is a *great* camouflage for crumbs, so I can't always see when it needs wiping down unless I turn bright lights on. And wiping it down with water (sometimes soapy, mostly not) is all I've ever done in terms of cleaning. All in all it's ultra low maintenance, and it looks good: definitely a winner in my book.

I am a fabricator. Either material can provide a beautiful and durable countertop that will give many years of use. Some natural stones (the more porous ones) can be stained and all of the quartz products are susceptible to damage from heat. Usually a stain can be removed; scorched quartz usually cannot be repaired completely. In actual practice I've dealt with only a handful of stained stained stone tops or scorched engineered stone ("quartz") tops in 16 years of business. IMHO the best approach is to determine the look you want and then choose a specific material. A good fabricator will take the time to educate you on the material properties of the various options. If a fabricator isn't willing to spend some time, sometimes even as much as several hours, during your decision making process find a new one. Good luck with your project.
