put me out of my misery and just tell me what kind of cans to get
Comments (47)remodelfla-thanks for the timely posting on this topic as lighting was next on our list. I intend to call Juno tech myself just to make sure I'm ordering the correct housings and trims. needsometips08-thanks for the info-my kitchen has lots of earthy colors so I guess the wheat will be a good choice. Today, when we were at the lighting store and actually got to see all the different Juno cans we definitely decided on the wheat. That interior color is a very soft, wheat like/pale gold color-it's really pretty. Also it was nice to see the 5" and the 6" mounted up next to each other. For us, it's the 5" even though it is a bit more expensive. What we can't get over is the HUGE price difference between ordering online or with the lighting store. If we order from laner.com we will save $300+ over the price quoted to us from the lighting store. That's a BIG difference. I would have liked to have been able to give the local company my business but not for that much of a price difference. This forum provides so much helpful info. Comments (7)Thanks Bill for chiming in.I agree with you about the frame. Something in my gut was telling me it's just not right. I will go back to the tile store today and check out the options in between the two. Then I'll need your advice about grout! Marcy- thanks for the compliment, we are really loving it too! Eastbaymom- I appreciate your comment! The woman at the tile store thought I needed a little something bigger like the frame too. Such tough decisions. Comments (54)ellendi and A2gemini - both of your designs you created with the Grazia Rixi tiles are stunning! I need do some google searching tonight and this weekend for simple backsplash ideas. That's what I want - simple and classic. I can embellish with the nick nacks and change those out as they get old and boring. ellendi, I love yours that it doesn't have any accents, just the brick tile. I am drawn to that shape, as it's the similar to the subway I have now. I am leaning more toward that at this point than the square as I feel it fits my kitchen and overall decorating style better. A2gemini - I am drawn to yours because it does have the accent tiles that bring the colors of the granite subtly into the backsplash. After some thinking, I am afraid that if I just use the accent tiles that I posted yesterday (ellendi, I agree, nix the ORB pencil liner) and not anything else that draws the granite colors in it will look, what word am I looking for, too contrast-y? Too sharp and not subdued? If I use the brick shape only, is it even possible to incorporate accent tiles? Gosh, I do sound like such a newb and high maintenance. But please don't give up on me yet! What about if I did a row of bricks, then a matching pencil liner, and then more bricks all the way up? What is the consensus of the the artistic folks reading my plight think would look best with my granite? Which, by the way I have fallen in love with again now that I have found the Rixi tiles...I had been cursing it for the past month or so as it, IMO, has been so hard to find something compatible! Also, there are two areas that do no have cabinets above them. Just to keep things simple (especially to the DH as I know he would never go for a 'no' backsplash idea in those areas) I intend to replace the existing footprint the same way. Do I end those two areas with the matching small end piece or go for the more grand and elaborate end cap? (forgive me, I don't know the technical names...) And, just to complicate matters, one of those areas has a cabinet door that will open up touch the area, so perhaps I do need to just do a flush end cap......See MoreBacksplash color opinions. Comments (147)I am back, having gone into "radio silence" for a while to digest this, play with sample boards, and repair some other parts of my house. This thread is almost at 150 entries!! That is represents some extreme generosity of the GW community on my behalf! I am really humbled and honored. However, as a practical matter, the thread is out of room and I still haven't decided! I am going to start a new thread, and link to it in the next post of this thread. I will use the rest of this thread to get caught back up, to recapitulate the most promising ideas and show you what I have been up to! Catching up: OB2B (11/12@7:52). Oh, those are pretty. I wonder just how $pendy they are. Your photoshop job is so nice. Do you think it looks too busy, or is it small enough a pattern to become just a texture? BellaJ: the walls are SW 6676 Butterfield. If anyone is interested, here is how I arrived at that color. Interesting observation on the tile size. Hmmm, Complete Tile does offer all of their tile in 3x3... I continue to like your "diamonds with decos" concept, as you will see below. And thanks for the Houzz info and images. I also like that decorative band. Veevs, thanks for the vote. EAM: Re: kitchens from the 20's having plain walls/wild floors: Yes, you are correct. I had been made aware of that during a thread trying to choose my floor. Also, I have a book from 1935 called "C.B. Smith's Home Owner's Handbook" that I rely upon for some period-appropriate information, and that confirmed what you say. Also, here are a few good GW threads: http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1110391922585.html http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg1120450213517.html So, yes, I am committed to not having too wild a wall. (I originally was going to do a two-color hopscotch pattern! Fortunately, I got talked down from the ledge.) raee: I pretty much agree with you. I am fairly well resigned to painting the walls. And those tiles need to be warmer, I agree. EAM: Re: the hex mosaics. Oooh, pretty! I like that, although I am worried about the busy-ness. I am going to put that in my second-tier list of options.
