easiest way to semi-permanently cover damage walls?

I'm working on converting a room in my house that was previously a recording studio back into a bedroom, but unfortunately taking off all of the sound dampening materials they used has pulled off a good chunk of the drywall and texturing with it. I'm also planning on a much bigger remodel in the next 2-3 years, so I really don't want to put a ton of time or money into making this look perfect when it's almost certainly just going to come down again pretty soon. What's going to be the fastest and/or cheapest way to DIY an adequate solution? I don't love shiplap, but that seems like it would be relatively forgiving and doable in a long weekend.

Cheapest way is tubs of drywall compound. How bad is it (pic?)?

not horrendous, and it would definitely work, but I despise skim coating. Although I suppose just finding a handyman to do it probably won't be much more expensive than the supplies for any other option.

Yep...new texture repair areas are VERY porous! * It's like painting over a thin chalk layer, which isn't too far from the truth... * Semi-glosses are pretty sensitive to ANY variation in surface porosity. * Your 2nd paint-coat will look lots better, since the 1st coat is "plugging more holes" (reducing porosity). * I would've done another full prime-coat AFTER all repairs/texturing have been done. This way, surface porosity is greatly reduced, allowing the glossier paints to develope their sheen ON TOP OF the full prime-coat. Other sheen-reducing factors: Pushing paint too thin, so-so quality roller-covers, not laying-off columns of paint...leading to thin areas of lesser sheen. I don't have a backsplash as my mirrors run to the counter. I have a small side area and I just used the same stone as my counter to have a short backsplash against the short wall. If I had a tile backsplash like your inspiration photo, I would just run the tile along the side wall. I am an adult and don't splash much but I figured better save than sorry. FWIW, I have wallpaper on that small side. I don't know if you are specifically considering a vessel sink but I think they are not particularly functional - especially in a bathroom that will actually be used by people extensively.

Several years ago; I can’t remember who told me, but if you know the paint color, remove the light switch cover from the first switch you come to when you enter a room and write the color details on the reverse side and put it back. That way you’ll always have a record of your paint. Then you can hang the paintings whichever way you like and patch the holes when you want. The Command strips in my experience, vary with their retaining strength on textured walls and can let go after a couple of years when you least expect it leaving a potential mess on the floor. My personal preferences are the screw in drywall picture hanging hooks. Paired for the appropriate weights, including shelving, they don’t come out and I’m not concerned with valuable artworks plummeting to the floor in the middle of the day.

Hello Houzz friends. Another update. we hung 3 shelves over the dining table. They are not decorated correctly yet so disregard that. I love the placement and it does a few things for me, 1. Fills the space without overwhelming it, 2. Allows for changing of decore and art when desired, 3. I didn’t buy anything new, just used what I had 4. Adds some color to my room which is predominantly black, white and grey. we tried moving up the light in the space but it looked super weird. I think it stays where it is. I ordered new knobs for the cabinet, they arrived today but were the wrong ones. 🙃 Last things to do for now are wallpaper inside the black hole that is the cabinet and recover the ottoman. A few throw pillows and good to go.

Hi, I think you have a opportunity to sharpen your skills. Some mud, a sheet of sheet rock, some tape. You can practice patching and texturing and if it doesn't come out perfect oh well your going to rip it out in a couple of years.

How about purchasing some inexpensive drop cloths and stapling them to the walls for

a temp fix.

IMO the drop cloth idea is by far the esaiest and cheapest you can even dye them hang them on a rod to work like a wall of drapes it would work well in bedroom

A bad drywall fix is likely to look better than the drop cloth idea. Hanging drop cloths would be more costly than drywall mud, and unless it is done well, is going to look like crap.

I would go the drywall route, and if you really hate skim coating, just get it as smooth as possible. Then paint it with flat builder's white paint.

But really, a good dry waller could count knock out that project in no time. And if your project gets delayed, you will regret not spending a bit more now.
