Heat Pump Switched to Emergency Heat in warm weather
Comments (5)It's hard to say if the attic workers caused the problem with the information at hand. Emergency heat is not selected automatically. It is selected by the home owner. It's purpose is to provide auxiliary only heat in an emergency (the failure of the heat pump mechanism). It also prevents the compressor from running if it is still able to do so. It should still shut off when the set temperature is reached. What is the make and model of the heat pump and the thermostat? Are you sure the system was in the emergency heat mode? What was the set temperature before you reset it? How did you rest the thermostat? Was the compressor running when the temp went so high? This information would help with a diagnosis. In the meantime, I would disconnect all power to the entire system at the AC breakers for at least five minutes to reset any electronics in the heat pump itself. If the thermostat has a battery in it, it would also be a good idea to remove the battery at the same time. This will help insure that the thermostat really is fully reset. Sorry about the hamster....See Morewhich seer and hspf model heat pumps would you recommend?
Comments (3)Remember to look for Heat Pumps that qualify for the tax credit. And Contractor is more important than equipment. For Bryant they have more than 78 different Heat Pump combination to meet the tax qualification. Evolution 288ANA Is good, I have field tested this to run around 1120 watts and hour in low speed (15cts hr from my electric company 34cts High speed) 3 ton heat pump. 286ANA 16 SEER there is a new model 266ANA coming out very soon that will take over the 286ANA series. The 266ANA is the only 2 speed 5 Ton Heat Pump system that meets the tax credit from Bryant, Carrier twin brother also has their model. I am not aware of any other brand that has a qualifying 2 speed 5 ton system. For Maytag, they have just released the IQ Drive heat pump. Highest SEER rating on the market. I'm trying to get real dealer and customer input on these since they are brand new. These systems it is said will run continuously but at a very low cost rate. The only concern I have is if there is still an low volume but high pitch noise created by the inverter outside. Next the Parent Company is looking to file chapter 11 but should not effect anything. It's just a re organization. also they do not have 5 ton systems with the IQ....See MoreWhat flowers or plants would you recommend?
Comments (6)I disagree that plant choice is entirely different than landscaping. Right plant/right place is one of the foundations of landscaping. As many have mentioned, in S. Cal my issues would be water wise and fire wise first. Right now your house is engulfed in shrubs, which doesn't look like it is either esthetic or prudent. I would hesitate to remove a large tree though, lots of time and energy went into growing it, and it can provide shade. So that would be first on my list of "jobs" for my landscaping to do--enhance the entrance to my home, provide some relief from the heat, and give me something nice to look at when I come home. But again, that is me. Having said that, if you love hydrangeas and ranunculus, nothing wrong with providing them an irrigated spot in your yard, but in the front with afternoon sun is not going to be it for the hydrangeas. Surely there is another spot, and you can grow some hydrangeas in pots too, to give you even more options for placement. I think the same could be said for ranunculus although I have no direct experience with them. I did see them mentioned as being part of a "love garden" design that had a gazebo and reflecting pool surrounded by pots of showy and fragrant flowers in pots. It was for an arid location, sort of a take on a kama sutra type painting. Ranunculus was one of the flowers. It was in the book "Theme Gardens" by Barbara Damrosch, and it is quite old now and out of print but is a real hoot of a book and worth searching out....See Morewhat kind of seating would you recommend?
Comments (6)Rockers yes, there's nothing better in my opinion for 'watching'. (My choice for your home would be natural wood similar to your door color, as previously mentioned.) We had a narrow front porch on a 'farmhouse/colonial' style home and they worked just fine with a table in the middle, they didn't travel. They were used to have coffee in the morning, wine in the evening, and just to watch the neighbors pull in and out of their driveways and wave or come over to say hi. Once our neighbor across the street came over with a few Stella Artois to share with us and he just sat there and looked at his house when his new landscaping was finished :) He loved our porch!...See Morejrb451
