Credit card complaints
Comments (29)soggy, Do you have a good connection with a credit union or bank? What'd be your possibility of getting a loan from them? If unsecured, probably somewhere around 10% - almost certainly a lower rate than you're paying now. If you own some mutual fund or stocks for which you are holding certificates, lodge them as collateral - or a (whole life) insurance policy with some cash values built up, you could probably get a loan at 5 - 6% approximately. Whole life insurance policies should do something to at least partially justify their high prices! If you own mutual funds or stock in companies with only documentation in the broker's computer - maybe have them issue certificates, if you plan to hold them for a while. The $35. - 50. or so fee would soon be made up by the difference in interest cost, if you have any sized balance owing on your "credit" (really "debt") card. Pay the darn "credit" card company off in full. Just one proviso - when you get the "credit" card balance paid off - don't succumb to the temptation to use it to go out and buy a lot more stuff! Just remember - when you get the "credit" card balance paid off - don't succumb to the temptation to use it to go out and buy a lot more stuff! Don't forget, now ... when you get the "credit" card balance paid off - don't succumb to the temptation to use it to go out and buy a lot more stuff! If you do - you'll have two debts - one at a lower rate of interest cost, and another at a high rate of interest. There's a 6-letter word for that - S-T-U-P-I-D. Hope you're enjoying a really great summer weekend. Comments (38)It sounds like with the number of credit cards you are currently holding, along with the large balance on the citibank card, you would be a great candidate for a REPUTABLE debt settlement program. I say reputable because it is well known that the majority of debt settlement companies have taken their fees first before they ever settle one of your accounts. However, new FTC legislation bans this practice, and as of October 27th, 2010, debt settlement companies must settle at least one of your debts before they can charge you for their services. You may genuinely benefit from working with an accredited debt settlement company. By doing so, the company will negotiate with your creditors on your behalf to help secure a settlement that is a percentage of what you originally owed. Great settlements are usually somewhere between 40-60% of the original debt. If you do choose to do this be aware that your credit will initially suffer, but that with more cash flow to go around because it is not being eaten up in minimum payments and interest, you can actually begin to repair your own credit by making solid financial decisions. In reality, you most likely already have poor credit due to your current situation, so you seem to have nothing to lose by seeking reputable, outside help. You can get ideas for repairing your credit from myfico.com. Further, I would be wary of going with a credit counseling agency. Though they may have a 'non-profit' status, they are in reality usually set up by the credit card companies themselves in order to recover as much of the original debt as possible. Nobody works for 'free.' Credit counseling works by contacting your creditors to lower the overall interest rate of a debt. Though this may save you some money, you would be better off finding an accredited debt settlement company to negotiate for you. Arm yourself with perseverance and a solid understanding of all your options. Once you set your mind on a plan, follow through- debt does not have to consume your entire life, and can be paid off in time....See MoreStop sending me blank credit courtesy checks
Comments (15)azzalea-a different dept.(not billing)handled cancelling the checks so I did receive the bill. Since I didn't request them and they can be cashed if misplaced/stolen I just don't think they should send them unless I call to ask for them. The less junk mail the better, especially this kind. Stating that you will not be responsible will not prevent the CC from claiming that you cashed them. No one wants to spend time on the phone/writing letters to clear that up. I just state the truth also... If you opted out which I did many many years ago, your CC can still send you solicitations/offers. Well anyhow I hope this info about stopping these checks benefits someone. Oh and I have been receiving many phone calls to switch electric companies, I told the girl I now have solar :)...See MoreQuestion re credit card.
Comments (13)There is no "way" to do it, it is simply a matter of whether a vendor takes cards, or not. We did once buy a Lexus SUV on a credit card, all of it, but that was a one time promotion with the dealer and Amex. The vendors pay a fee. The fee can vary greatly, usually the more business a vendor has the lower the fee. In day to day transactions with very large companies, the fee is invisible. (in fact generally most card agreements prohibit differentiated pricing, otherwise there would be no credit card business). With a proprietor, it is very much visible to them. He will probably do it if you paid the fee but, guess what ... the fee is going to be more than the value of the miles. I might only do this if I were very close on miles to a trip I wanted, and it was cheaper than buying them. Usually, the most economic thing to do with a sole proprietor is to pay cash ... no fees... and hey, I don't file the guys taxes....See MoreLars
