Avoid Indus Parquet Flooring

I am very disappointed that Indus Parquet does not stand behind their flooring. The previous homeowner installed Indus Parquet Amendoin 1/2” X 5’ manufactured wood flooring. The installation was above standard in that there was a second layer of plywood installed over a layer of plywood, not particle board along with a moisture barrier. The floor was stapled per manufacturer directions. The joists in the home are also trussed demonstrating the quality of the construction. The home has 3 York AC/Heating units that have been maintained and in continuous working order. The flooring is also over a finished basement and the Builder told us if there was a moisture problem we would have stains on the basement sheet rock ceiling. The home has been occupied by only 2 adults since installation where upmost care was given to it including the use of flooring products as recommended by the manufacturer. In only 10 years we are seeing delamination of the product. Indus Parquet had originally staTed they would have an independent NWFA agent look at it, but are now shifting that responsibility to us and saying only moisture would have caused the delamination. I would avoid purchasing this product based on our experience and the manufacturer not standing behind their product or warranty!

...OK...What? Wait? Your complaining about a floor that was installed by SOMEONE ELSE... And it is 10 years old??? Wait. I'm confused. Do you have access to the warranty document? Can you post it?

Is this wood? Is this vinyl? Laminate? Why would the 'builder' be telling you about it 10 years later.

As for 'former owners'...they are not known for their accurate detailing of 10 years of flooring maintenance.

To be very clear about this, we will need photos. And tell us about the maintenance SCHEDULE of the previous people. Remember: PURCHASING the right product is one thing. But if it is used INAPPROPRIATELY (ie. used WAAAAAY to often = inappropriate) or with the inappropriate application the flooring product can and will fail.

I've seen it. I've had colleagues see it. I've spoken to the Inspectors who have seen it. And I've spoken to retailers who have seen it. Let's just say it is NOT a conversation anyone wants to have with a homeowner.

What a ridiculous reply! It is a manufactured laminate wood flooring as my comment states! This is a high end home in meticulous condition! The obscure warranty by the manufacturer is for 25 years so get off your high horse and realize this is what it is a warning to potential buyers! Unfortunately there is little information available on it as I found before we purchased the home!!

Thanks for the tips so far. As for the ceiling, I'm afraid the cold, hard rapping sound my knuckle makes confirms I'm dealing with only 96" from the floor slab to the ceiling. On the oak comment -- I agree it is not the most contemporary look, but I did have concerns about going too light (might show more wear) and/or too modern (which I associate with being somewhat stark & antiseptic. Would maple still be something to consider? Are my worries unfounded? My thoughts on wood vs. an alternative surface were around wanting to have a little warmth (of texture/color) and, quite frankly, resale value. Realizing we will not want to live in a small concrete box in the big city forever, I can't help thinking there is a greater risk with materials like bamboo or cork being perceived as "so 2006" (of course I'm also making an assumption around traditional wood flooring having more timeless appeal). One of my other assumptions that I would welcome folks to challenge (or confirm, if that's the case) is around the decision to stay with a lighter color for the flooring (for the reasons in my first post). The walnut color of the old floor, by itself, is pretty attractive by my eye, but my impression is that it is also making the apartment feel darker than it needs be. Thanks again. Ed

60 years old!...difficult to say what was done to it over the years. HOWEVER!...if you want to make refinishing easier when the time comes...don't wax that floor; it will interfere with any refinishing involving film-forming finishes, such as polyurethanes. You could clean and buff the floor and apply an inexpensive waterborne polyurethane...that would get you through a few years with a surface you can clean and that will not interfere with a future sand and finish.

Sounds questionable. Variations from 2 to 3 inches are rare. Chances are you don't have them, but even if you did, putting down parquet wouldn't disguise them. Get a long straight board and/or a level and set it on sections of the floor. Making a blanket statement about all concrete floors being out of level is inaccurate. The parquet in the unit was probably done because it was an inexpensive wood floor, not to deal with a subfloor issue. Floating floors are very sensitive to level however. They generally use the same specification as architects which is level to 1/8" within 10'. Humps in the floor can cause areas to be bouncy. This is generally easily fixed by doing some floating.

It's all about the use of the space. If the basement is dark and dingy, then go with something that is super light (almost like a Scandinavian look). If it is a walk out basement with 9ft ceilings and a massive amount of light, then the depth of colour on the floor won't matter as much. If this is going to become a public space (you will have guests over for movie night) then going with a higher quality product is part and parcel of the renovation. If this is a private space for the family to 'hang', then laminate will work very well. Just make sure that you put the MONEY into the subfloor. Carpets hide the WORST possible substrates imaginable. That's why they are used. The builder can muck up the slab because s/he knows the carpet will hide the horrors of the bad pour. A well prepared concrete slab (that used to be covered in carpet) can cost $2-$4/sf to 'fix'. That's normal. That is to be expected. Please budget for it. If you can get away with less, then great. But at least you will be prepared to pay the price at the beginning. Once the slab is fixed, you can go ahead and put down any rigid floor you want. Engineered floating hardwood is not a problem. Laminate is not a problem. LVP is not a problem. Nothing is a problem so long as the concrete slab is fixed. But be aware that you will need to float the floor. We've got too many horror stories of 'glue down' floors in basements (or over old slabs) that were ruined (complete gut and redo) by moisture. Had those homeowners used a floating floor, they would not have had the troubles they experienced.

Wow. You totally missed the humour didn't you?

You are therefore well aware that 99% of floor failures have NOTHING to do with the manufacturer.

Please help your own cause and load the pics...And answer the questions posed...or we won't have much more to say.

If course you are welcome to continue to sling mud. But make sure you aim it at the correct people.

Must be the 1% then considering it was installed above standards and maintained per an upscale home. Maybe it’s just this Manufacturer that makes a inferior product And the percentage is higher!!!

Did they use a maid for cleaning? I've known dozens of floors that were ruined by maid services.

The other thing: a floor doesn't suddenly fail when it a 'bad batch' after 10 years. A bad batch is found VERY quickly. As in 'less than a year'. Even then...the same questions apply to what I've asked you (which you have chosen not to answer). To PROVE it is manufacturing issues, you MUST be able to problem solve. That means you must investigate ALL OTHER possibilities before you yell out to the world, "Hey! This stuff is cr@p! Don't buy it!"

The chances are extremely slim for a manufacturer to be found liable for poor manufacturing after 10 years of the flooring in someone's home.

So yell it to the mountain tops...my question is: Why were 1/2" laminate wood floors (again, is this laminate flooring or wood flooring???) in a HIGH END home? A high-end home would demand 3/4" hardwood floors with a 6mm wear layer.

And does the home have a WHOLE HOME humidifier/dehumidifier? Or both if needed??? Questions about your complaints remain.
