Let’s talk blue light computer glasses

These were recommended by my previous optometrist.

Anyone use them? What are your thoughts?

which would you recommend?

I recently (this week) saw a news segment about them.Of course I can’t remember exactly what news outlet. I did find the following which is what the report said.

“ The American Academy of Ophthalmology says you don’t need them and has gone on record as not recommending any kind of special eyewear for computer users. The organization says blue light from digital devices does not lead to eye disease and doesn’t even cause eyestrain. The problems people complain about are simply caused by overuse of digital devices, it says.

“The symptoms of digital eye strain are linked to how we use our digital devices, not the blue light coming out of them,” the AAO says.”

Most computers have a "night time" feature or you can simply adjust the brightness. I can not use the night time feature because it makes the screen an amber color making it harder for me to read. You will find these in Settings. On mine it is under Ease of Access.

Last time this topic came up another person made a similar comment. Try looking away or if possible do not spend as much time on the computer. Before I retired the suggestion at work was every hour to get away from the desk for about 5 minutes when possible.

This may be my favorite letter yet! All the clematis, coreopsis, campanulas... such color and loveliness! sandyslopes, I Just planted Crystal Fountain last year. So looking forward to the blooms! babs, your Roguchi is beautiful! I have one in a pot that needs to go in the ground. I hope it looks like yours someday. Pink Chiffon clematis, aka Hayley Hybrid. This one never stopped blooming last year! NOID. I call this one “Not Niobe” Lol. Coreopsis moonbeam. New to me this year. Grows like nuts. Divided one 4” pot into three plants, each was a full size blooming machine by the end of summer. Also calibrichoa.

@maddielee I have a friend who had the plugs put in. My dr. did not mention them. I am hopeful I am not to that point yet. That i one thing I like about her; she is thorough and not in a rush to bring in the big guns!! (plugs, prescrip meds) @eld6161 I am good about drinking water. As I've gotten older, my skin has gotten drier, but not my hair (especially since I quit coloring). Yes, my dr. is also proactive. She does not want to use the prescription drugs unless we have to. When I went for my follow up - 6 weeks later - she said she could see more tears in the eye. I have quit doing the warm compress and have cut down (most days) on the number of times I use drops. The pollen is factoring in right now LOL. As I said, my glasses were $20 or so, and they seem to help somewhat. Maybe not the dryness, but eyestrain? I don't know but as long as I can tell a difference, I'll use them. Such as now, I've been doing billing, etc. for my husband's business most of the morning. The glasses stay on my desk, so I remember to use them! I also take eye vitamins (a different formula) as my father had macular degeneration. Thank you all!

I've tried so many dishtowels and dish cloths, expensive and inexpensive, and have finally settled on a cotton waffle brand from Target. They're absorbent, textured enough to clean countertops and dishes, the size is good, plus having dark wash cloths that don't show stains so easily helps them last longer in the kitchen. They're stored in a kitchen drawer, and the wet dish cloth at the sink is rotated out daily. Wet linens are draped over the side of a plastic laundry basket tucked away in the laundry room until they dry so they don't get stinky which then require multiple washings or extra laundry additives. They're usually washed with our bath towels. I like the linens to match the color scheme of the kitchen. When they get worn or heavily stained, they're either moved to the outdoor kitchen or to a rag bin under the laundry sink.

When my kids could not all gather on my actual birthday, they did a Powerpoint presentation of my gifts over Zoom. It was fun to see what they picked and why. As much fun as actual gifts really. Between that experience and this thread I have a new idea for next year. Someone has ads out this year that talk about gifts being a way of being "seen;" that gifts show the recipient that the giver knows and understand them. The best gifts show that someone is really paying attention, in essence. And what is most satisfying is that connection, as much as the actual tangible gift. I mean, who didn't get a little hit of serotonin from being "given" a gift on this thread? I know I did. So I am going to propose that next year, our family do three types of gifts: 1. stocking stuffers 2. donations to charities that we think the recipient would want to support 3. virtual gifts, with a very large budget (maybe 100k ?), that are presented as powerpoints,or even those folding boards... kind of like the lottery slogan, "all you need is a dollar and a dream." I shall propose this!

The opinions of ophthalmologists trump the opinions of optometrists no matter what. Go with that. What you were told is bogus advice for selling purposes. Good to hear it's your PREVIOUS optometrist.

(I apologize for the verb I used).

I have a pair I got from Ebay that I like. I don't recommend the brand and hoped to find a replacement pair at the eye clinic, but the virus usurped that plan.

They filter blue light, not mask over it with warm colors. I wear mine in the morning and evening, when there isn't daylight to dilute the blue light coming from the computer monitor. I have far less eye strain than I did before I got blue blockers.

I just bought and returned them. It's impossible to clean the lens, they're cheaply made.

I hope you read the piece linked in maddielee's comment above. The people who sell them are the ones that advocate their use. The medical experts say that there's no evidence of benefit as regards digital displays. I think which is the objective opinion and which piece of advice is sales and marketing driven is obvious but everyone can decide for themself.

I bought a pair of them at Costco last year and they are still in the packaging. If I find I am having eye strain my laptop has some kind of filter I can use or I just shut down the computer.
