I need someone to share a positive experience of laminate!
Comments (59)Melamine is a plastic -- it's just that there are many types of plastic. The outgassing of formaldehyde (now this isn't a plastic) is far reduced than that outgassed from, say, presswood. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Melamine resin Melamine resin or urea formaldehyde (also shortened to melamine) is a hard, thermosetting plastic material made from melamine and formaldehyde by polymerization. In its butylated form, it is dissolved in n-butanol and xylene. It is then used to cross-link with alkyd, epoxy, acrylic, and polyester resins, used in surface coatings. There are many types, varying from very slow to very fast curing. It was initially discovered by William F. Talbot,[1] who applied to patent it on December 12, 1936.[2] Construction material The principle use of melamine resin is the main constituent of high-pressure laminates, such as Formica and Arborite, and of laminate flooring. Melamine-resin tile wall panels can also be used as whiteboards.[3] Melamine formaldehyde is used in plastic laminate and overlay materials. Formaldehyde is more tightly bound in Melamine Formaldehyde than it is in urea-formaldehyde, reducing emissions. *** I commend you in doing the best you can in going green and helping your little 2-year old. I assume you are also looking into the best products for floor adhesives. You say the concrete in the basement is already poured? I'm wondering if just leaving that floor as is - except for a few area rugs -- could work for you? You could still use the laminate upstairs and save money for other purposes down the road. Laminate, if the right pattern is chosen, can look good, and will stand up to many years of use and abuse....See MoreLet’s share “Before and After” photos.
Comments (28)=) made it back to this thread to be able to post more now that I have some time to study. This is definitely is not studying, but it is my own social media interaction with friends so I need to take few minutes and then resume. Sylvia I really like your pictures, Moonstone is my number one hybrid tea. There is something lovely about a delicate white rose with that pink edge. It also makes a wonderful cut rose. I like your stone fence, do you have any plans for climbing roses? They would look amazing. Daisy and Desmond are just adorable =) Oldrosarian your picture of Cinderella left me amazed and drooling over it. What an impressive gorgeous globular rose. I then saw your shot with all the brown blooms and was a bit disappointed. Is this what happens to that rose every time it rains or something made it happen this one time? I recently planted 4 pomponellas and I think they may also turn this ugly brown as they fade requiring diligent deadheading. I am a complete crazy lady for the globular blooms tho and your rose is just spectacular. Thank you for sharing. Thank you Ingrid you entire yard is just magnificent. I don't know how you got that giant rock, but it adds another layer or charm and it fits in very well in the landscape. I love everything t you have done and it just seems to flow very well showing that you have a fantastic eye for design besides being a great gardener. Pippa I think you have made a huge change and I like the way you started doing. Everything looks organized and well planned. I have to admit to being very impulsive in the garden scene and just planting lots of stuff every where then neglecting to weed it. Your garden looks neat and clean, with good textures and great attention to detail. Which roses do you have planted in that large bed? HalloBlondie those pictures certainly count! Huge difference in a yard with such impressive winter cover. Everything looks so alive now and beautiful. Vapor your ballerina on that balustrade looks like out of a Spanish castle magazine. I love the soft girly look of that rose and feel like it looks wonderful paired with anything. Is that lamb's ear showing up in your picture? I don't have any, but have seen it at lowes and always wondered if it would be a good companion plant....See MoreUgly bathroom- let’s put some lipstick on the pig
Comments (20)I noticed that the “toe kick” was the same material as the floor molding, but with it painted white it makes the cabinet look as if it is floating above the floor. Although the rest of the floor molding is white, my eye accepts that as floor molding. I find that it is somewhat jarring to have ithe toe kick area white as I think it should be part of the cabinet and to bring the eye down to the floor as part of the cabinet....See MoreEden climber - let’s see those photos!
Comments (29)RaeAnna, I will for sure! That arbor has been in the works for so long that if I actually ever get it completed you’d better believe I will be insufferably showing it off. Lilyfinch, thank you! Earth Angel wants to be much bigger than that spot allows, but she’s worth wrangling for those blooms and repeats really well for me there, which keeps that area interesting when Eden is resting. You should definitely get another! I have two, one on either side of that arbor entrance and it’s all of my littles’ favorite rose. They are always wanting to run out there and smell it. There’s so much info out there on the internet nowadays that I feel pretty confident attempting to build most anything. I did the entire fence by myself and even learned how to do concrete and stone mosaics online so I could lay the path. But there’s something about this arbor that’s really intimidating me. I want it to be an arch that mirrors the architecture of the front of the house, and I can’t settle on what method I’m going to use. I tend to obsessively plan to a fault and that’s part of the problem. I need to just bite the bullet and get started and whatever happens, happens! I’d love to see your birdhouse! There’s nothing like the pride you feel when you’ve done it yourself. Vapor, thank you so much! Please copy the combo, I’d love to see what you do with it! And thank you for the compliments, the house exterior and garden has been in the works for a long time, so comments like “utter charm” just thrill me to the bone in a way I can’t adequately articulate. It’s been so much work over years and so frustrating at points, and of course I doubt my choices sometimes like we all do and worry it’s all “too weird” for a front yard in a land of lawns, so positive feedback means a lot to me....See MoreRelated Professionals
