Really solar shades are the perfect answer they allow your view and keep out heat and UV rays the only thing is they are not privacy at night so I usually mix them with drapes if privacy is an issue.

Nothing, I think. The house I grew up in never had window treatments in the kitchen. It was lovely and clean that way - anything on those windows would have cluttered the look of the kitchen and made for more housework to keep clean. We recently bought an old house in which the previous owner seemed overly concerned with privacy - clouded stick-on window pane covers, heavy blinds, and long lacy curtains in the kitchen and no way to fasten them open. I finally pulled them down because I like looking out the window and the curtains were grimy and discolored from exposure to typical kitchen grease dispersal - they should have been thrown in the wash every couple of weeks but weren't. We are going to be redoing window treatments throughout the house, and I have no plans to put anything on the kitchen windows. If you do want window treatments in the kitchen, they need to be easily removed and machine washable.

Hunter Douglas offers a Designer Screen Patio Shade specifically meant for spaces like this. They are a form of a roller shade are work really well in this type of opening. They will require drilling into the posts/fascia but if you find a local dealer in your area, they can make sure things are mounted properly. Designer Screen Shades
