Nothing, I think. The house I grew up in never had window treatments in the kitchen. It was lovely and clean that way - anything on those windows would have cluttered the look of the kitchen and made for more housework to keep clean.

We recently bought an old house in which the previous owner seemed overly concerned with privacy - clouded stick-on window pane covers, heavy blinds, and long lacy curtains in the kitchen and no way to fasten them open. I finally pulled them down because I like looking out the window and the curtains were grimy and discolored from exposure to typical kitchen grease dispersal - they should have been thrown in the wash every couple of weeks but weren't.

We are going to be redoing window treatments throughout the house, and I have no plans to put anything on the kitchen windows.

If you do want window treatments in the kitchen, they need to be easily removed and machine washable.
