Help - Flooring choices to compliment blinds

Hello!

I've gone down a terrible rabbit hole of flooring options and have come no closer to picking. I have an issue of my new blinds being too red for any flooring options that I would prefer. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it look good without going full vampire tomb in my house with dark on dark and red everywhere? What wood species would look good or color? I'd prefer a medium to dark tone because currently the light floors look off.

I am told I can only choose waterproof laminate due to my pups and stairs which is fine but the amount of options are overwhelming!

Use something that has red tones in it like red oak. Stay away from stains as grey hues are very popular right now so many stains have a cool undertone which will clash with the blinds. If you have kids or pets, try a matte or low sheen to reduce appearance of scratches.

The other option is if you aren't in love with the blinds, is to pick white wood blinds or paint these blinds white (depending on your budget). Thus will open you up to more options.

First question: are you planning on painting your walls?

In the second pic the walls appear to be MATCHED to the light wood flooring. This is causing a HUGE amount of YELLOW to go into the space = intensifies/changes red tones.

I would want to have my walls primed white (get something over top of all that yellow/beige) to give you a natural jumping off point. Right now we are guessing by pics.

Your first pic shows BURGUNDY blinds....and then your second pic shows deep cherry. And this is why picking colours in a space that has HEAVY colour tones is SUPER difficult.

If it were me and I was resigned to the burgundy/cherry blinds I would bring in Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) coloured flooring. It would be a case of "Go big or go home".

Johnmari, Thank you for sharing about the many variations on white. Now I'm a little worried. We really don't have $ to go for custom treatments. If I go with the white, maybe I should order, try one, and then understand I may have to return? Yes. Absolutely. That was JM's point and what I assumed (and shouldn't have) you already knew. You need to have a plan to check the color before you commit. Or, as Annz said, there are many other resources out there at about the same price point as JCP where you can obtain samples before you buy. My Lowe's for instance has a nice supply of take home color samples for blinds and plantation shutters. You mention a mix of mission and contemporary - again, either would work. Someone made the point the wood tones do not reflect as much light into the space -- that is accurate. If you have abundant natural light, might not be such a concern. But if you're having trouble deciding between the two, that factor is something to consider. Exterior - Again, either can work. It's a matter of your deciding which choice, white or wood, is going to fit best with the design and look you're marching towards interior as well as exterior. Maybe make a spreadsheet and list the pros and cons of each color choice to help you see which one 'fits' best at least on paper.

Thanks everyone. I really love getting help and info from you all. I really will have to consider travertine. The granite is Delicatus Gold and I really really like it's look. organic nettie: The half wall is between the kitchen eatting area and a small office. No one ever wanted to go in the office because it was a very closed in feeling. So everyone ended up with lap tops on the kitchen table, especially DH. So the bar area is what I call my "computer bar", DH and kids can park there if they want to be in the kitchen or there is a slab desk of granite behind the bar on the office side where I do my computer stuff. The height of wall without granite is 40.75" and with 3cm granite it is exactlly 42". I think this is standard bar height (if there is such a thing). I will get 30" bar stools. The bar is 14" wide. I wanted it wide enough to accommadate computers or a 12" dinner plate and could not go any wider because of the space confinement with the kitchen table/chairs near it. I would not have built things this way if I was starting from scratch but it is working for us and is a big improvment over the small office. If you look at the picture (in link above labeled "granite install" you can see the metal supports under the bar the DH made. The over hang on kitchen side is 8". Generally any over hang greater than 8" needs to be supported. Since the bar only overhangs on the opposite side of the wall by 1.5" we needed support.

The biggest problem is the Jatoba is factory finished. The beveled edges give it away. That's what makes adding more to this floor so difficult. I'm not sure a factory finished floor that is inlaid into the floor would look very good. The bevelled edges make this a bit funky. If this were site finished, we wouldn't have a problem (site finished are often square edged and are seamless when installed). A lovely travertine tile would look very nice with Jatoba. The creamy peach tones do very well with the warm tones in the wood. A limestone tile would also work nicely. I would work with porcelain tile...not real stone. With a busy home, the porcelain will wear MUCH better than the real, porous, easy to stain, hard to clean, stone.

Are shutters or blinds a better choice for interior windows for resale

We have plantation shutters on all of the windows in our home where privacy is needed (nothing covers the others) and love them. That said, they aren't for everyone, and I definitely would not invest the $$$ to add to them in a home to be put on the market. Add the blinds if you absolutely must for resale, but consider whether you really need to add window treatments at all, letting your buyer handle that. It's a small matter in the overall scheme of the sale.

I'm not currently planning on painting my walls. The pictures are what I have in my home (both blinds and floors) and the floors are what I'd like to replace. I'm not a huge fan of the light colored floors I have now and was hoping for a medium/darker tone.

The blinds show both burgundy and a cherry hue based on the sun hitting it so that's why I included both and what has caused my conundrum. We just replaced the blinds but unfortunately my husband picked them without consideration of us renovating the floors!

I see someone mentioned painting the blinds and hadn't considered that previously but am wondering if that may be the easiest/cost effective solution since my blinds are so new.

No, they are cheap laminate that was in the house prior to us purchasing.

Fair enough. You either compliment the WALLS = yellow/warm brown or you compliment the BLINDS (maroon/cherry/burgundy).

To be clear...this is really Bass akwards. I've yet to come across a reno that needed to match the floors to the blinds...Floors might go in last...but blinds and soft furnishings are purchase after the big stuff has been paid for and installed.

It would be like matching the kitchen renovation to the backsplash. It *can be done but it normally isn't...'cause it is the wrong order of things.

Good luck. Go ahead and google 'Brazilian Cherry' flooring.

This is our first home so we are definitely newbies when it comes to renovations and started with little bits at a time :) My husband was a tad trigger happy doing the blinds (and to my chagrin chose the color) first since we purchased it without blinds on certain windows so now we are in a backwards spiral.

I appreciate the help!!
