“Your door your way” Mastercraft Interior door

We are looking at replacing 5 interior doors downstairs. They will be for 2 closets, 1 half bath, 1 laundry, and 1 basement all pre-hung. We are just looking for primed and ready to paint doors. I was looking into the Mastercraft doors by Menards where you can “build” it the way you want to order. They would be the pre-hung primed smooth 2 panel raised hollow core doors. Does anyone have any experience with these Mastercraft doors and if they are of good quality? We are mainly looking at this route because we are finding many places are “out of stock” of their door options online and we need these fairly soon to start our project of renovating our downstairs. We are planning on replacing all of our trim and baseboards would like to replace the doors at the same time. Thanks so much for any advice!

We needed a narrow width 2 panel door, & had to "special order" it from Menards. It is JUNK!

The jamb is made out of pressed paper! (It was just for a closet in a utility room.)

Anywhere else, and it would have been sent back!

I think you would be better served at a real lumberyard, for not much more $$, where they will tell you all the specs.

The basic in-stock prefab doors from any big box store, even special ordered slab styles, are perfectly fine for the price that is assigned to them (cheap price = cheap materials). If your house value dictates that hollow core and MDF jambs are appropriate, then no reason to break the bank on better material$. The important part is that you match, or intend on future matching, all the doors on all the floors together.

If you like the price of a pressed-board slab, you can get the "Duracore" fill which will make it a little more solid feeling (but still not as expensive as solid core slabs). If your new baseboard is going to be MDF, no reason to complain that the door frame is MDF either.

We're putting a new second floor on our old home, and are using 4-panel doors in a 2 -over-2 arrangement, with square sticking. They look simple & relatively timeless to me. One place we are saving money is the hardware. I love Emtek knobs but can't justify the price (door knobs are something I can change easily down the road, not so much for plumbing fixtures, the doors themselves, and flooring). So we're going with Kwikset in matte black - they feel better than Schlage (less jiggly) and are pretty inexpensive. My logic is to splurge on items I can't easily replace & for items I can swap out later (in a couple years) I'm choosing things I like so I can afford to LOVE the other things.

I'm in the middle of making the same decision. Our walls will be grant beige, trim is bone, and some accents will be huntington beige - somewhat darker and golder than the wall color. I'm thinking of painting the doors the Huntington beige instead of the trim color. The palette of all three cord works well together, but I'm not sure I want a gold beige on the doors (I have a horror of fleshy beiges, but these are not, and work nicely with the high desert landscape). Hard to decide without pictures/visuals!

About $165 for 8' tall, two panel, knotty alder, slab only, no frame. I believe that they had 6'-8", pre-hung 6 panel, solid fir doors for $100. Not sure how reputable the dealer is - they pretty much come out and say that their doors are manufactured in Louisiana, but I have since heard from two separate sources that the doors are from China. www.rennaissancedoors.com, if you are interested.

My daughter,(40) just this week moved back in, she had left her husband and her teenage daughter over a year ago,which was a shock to everyone,she was having an affair with someone at work, and moved in with him. This of course caused a lot of problems, her daugher was devistated,her husband was a mess... I am close to both of them. It was many months before my daughter and I spoke..I finally told her I had to let go and fogive her, not for her, but for me.However our relationship was also strained. I told her I was concerned for her, as this man has a history of domestic abuse. She called me last week, she needed out of the relationship. is broke and now worried about her job, since he is her superviser. I told her, I had 3 rules...she had to be completly honest with me, NO drinking( this had been an issue with the boyfriend, she joined in) and she needed to seek conseling. So now she is living in our guest room.. But things are looking better, after talking to human resorces, her job is okay.. turns out this guy has a history of relationships with co-workers.She is looking into being switched to another department. And her daughter has been comunicating with her, very causiously, but a start.... So wish us all the best..

I am completely familiar with the difference between an mdf jamb - (veneered for staining or plain for painting). Which is why I was appalled to find out that Menard's had gone to "pressed paper" for their jambs.

Building materials are being produced with less and less quality, but higher and higher prices, in terms of raw materials and quality control.
