ideas for a multi-function bath counter and sink
Comments (4)Avoid anything cement-based (concrete, FireSlate, etc) or many of the softer or porous natural stones due to the potential of the vinegar to etch those materials, or the dyes and paints to stain them. Even granite. Soapstone is non-absorbant, and non-porous. It can, however, be superficially stained or discolored if a damaging liquid is left standing on the surface for long periods. If that happens, just give it a light scuff sanding to remove any surface imperfections. Soapstone is relatively soft though, so it can scratch. With all the things you'll be throwing at this countertop, I hate to say it, but an inert man-made synthetic might be your best choice for performance, but it might not fit the aesthetic. You could do concrete and give it an epoxy film finish. An epoxy film is near bulletproof when it comes to stain resistance, but heat (hot pot from a cooktop or oven) can damage or lift the film....See MoreMulti-function in Kitchen with TOOLS
Comments (7)This is really getting some cute replies to it! Love the butter with a blender, because I as a child made butter the old fashioned way for my grandma....in her churn, and it took FOR-E-VER .... And I'm also reminded of what happened on my boat (it had 4 big Detroit diesels) and the engineer used to heat up his cans of chili on the manifolds. Then one day he got wet while on deck, stripped off his clothes and laid them on the manifolds to dry. It caused a serious fire in the engine room and shut the boat down. I was off the boat at the time. Fire is the worst nightmare you can have on a boat. But I digress here. I bet you could also make ice cream with the drill. Especially a variable speed one. Ohhhh, and I love my sawz-all or Tiger saw, but do not pick it up at 2 in the morning after you've mellowed out on Scotch, because you feel you can do ANYTHING. I'll have to suggest the saw for carving turkey to my DH. At this time he cooks big turkeys in his huge GE oven up in MA and would get a kick out of this idea. He cooks turkey all year long, not just at Thanksgiving. Maybe you guys should send in some of your ideas........See MoreLaundry room ideas to make it fun and functional
Comments (19)I understand the interest in cheery and fun but I also think beyond cabinet colour or wall colour there isn’t much to do in a utilitarian space. Our mudroom is also laundry room. We will have one wall with sink, washer, dryer. Extra fridge. Then the other wall will be cabinetry for coats and bags. We will be using the ikea pax system. I’m not settled on door colour yet. On the wall, where a window could go but I don’t want one, there will be hooks and trays for wet boots. My life with three kids has taught me that boot trays are necessary!...See MoreFurniture help for odd shaped multi use room
Comments (1)Looking for advice on what to do with this odd(ish) room. Intended use will be kitchen / dining room / sitting area. I don't need a formal tv space, as our tv will be in another room, although we were thinking about putting up a samsung frame above the fireplace for cooking videos and such. For the sitting area, I'd love to be able to play board games, curl up and read a book, or have coffee chats. I also love function, so a table, or sideboard to store keys or any other useful stuff is great! Any and all advice is appreciated. Couple of key points: With the exception of the dining room table, i'm not married to any of the furniture, so it can go or stay. If possible I'd like to fit the coffee table, but I realize it's large so not a deal breaker. The alcove space to the right of the refrigerator has been ear-marked this pantry, Which we definitely need, so not much can go there. The side of the island facing the fireplace, has cabinets, which are in active use (hold pressure cooker and such) so furniture can't be pushed up against it. The window to the right of the french doors (in the pictures it has a green pillow against it) has a doggy door, so that can't be covered either. The measurement from fireplace to island is 113 inches. Left edge of gray cabinet to right edge of the fire place is 98.5 inches. The wall color is gray / green. It's greenish during the day and grayish at night. I'm so lost as to what to do. Pictures will be posted below....See Morejoelcoqui
