Rug & Small Details

Hey all! It has been awhile since I’ve posted but my room has really evolved and the pandemic has shifted me to focus on my home design.

Anyhow, I currently have this natural, flat woven rug. It has not been kid/dog friendly so I am looking to switch it out. I absolutely detest it as it has not held up.

My style is kind of eclectic. Modern and vintage mcm blend. A lot of my stuff is thrifted or second hand.
I’ve been teetering between an ivory/beige shag or possibly a red and black vintage pattern. Any tips?
My wall art above my bed is staying, and I’m currently still looking for the art by my chair.
Any suggestions for anything else near the chair? I was considering a small spider lamp or maybe a tiny table near the wall with a buffet lamp or plant.

Looking for the tiny details. Accepting any advice.
My dressers will my keep photos and I’ll probably find a bright flip clock to replace my sunset one.
I realize my Jere art needs to drop a little and I’m up to moving it if a color pop of art would help brighten my space!

I like color, too.

Doggo is a cutie, and I like your room.

What is your rug budget? Are you keeping the curtains?

Unless you need a table by the chair (for drinks or whatever), I think I’d just do a floor lamp. It looks like a pretty tight space.

I got this one for an MCM chair in my DD’s 1940’s era apartment, she loves it. It comes in various colors.

Just playing around, you mentioned red and black in a rug — I actually have this one in my bathroom. It’s holding up great and is very soft with wonderful saturated colors. (The mockup skews the patterns a bit) .....

LOL Rosemarie, you crack me up! I got a good chuckle from your comment, thanks. Al, the only light source for this little one is the south facing windowsill it currently resides on next to several other pots all lined up as tightly as I can get them. It seems to be satisfied with that amount of light. If I had to guess, I'd say it receives roughly 8 hours of bright sun each day (when it's not cloudy). I'm anxious to see how the color changes when it goes outside in the spring. Hopefully it'll decide to divide also. Thanks for the nice comments all. I do enjoy watching my Mesembs and observing the subtle changes they go through as time goes by. They truly are an interesting group. Amy

I would love to post some pictures of my kitchen, but don't know how. I am not the most computer savy person. All my pictures are placed staight from the camera on a file. If anyone has easy tips let me know. I know the paper towel jars are beautiful, but can't get myselt to spend that much $. I also looked at Ballards, and having been thinkins about the wrought iron piece w/ a round basket weave balls on top. Would hold both paper and hand towels, but it is large. So many problems.

I think that rug makes the room look smaller. Either no rug or a rug that fills the room would be my choice. I think, also, remove that table from the window area and put a little round side table (if you need one) out of sight between the chair and the window wall (okay--one for each chair, if you need it). I have these little 12" diameter tables that are perfect for putting a drink on and take up little space. I think some nice, colorful drapes/curtain panels and coordinating accent pillows on the chairs would be great. The goal would not be to COVER the windows, but to draw attention to them (they are great windows!). It sounds like your goal is to be able to seat a bunch of folks for gatherings in the that room or not? What is the main goal of the room?

I like the way the height of the wainscot matches the lowest panel of the door. As far as the difference in finish, a couple things come to mind. First, previous caretakers of the home may have just done whatever struck their mind at certain points; it's different now that you are looking at it as a historical restoration in 'one piece'. I even see this in my own renovation - there's places I used satin finish in one space and it butts into a gloss finish in another (oops!) The other thing I notice in those rooms is that the room behind it has what looks like shiplap or some other horizontal wall - it's possible that is a less formal part of the house, or not meant to be seen when entertaining. And that can lead to different choices in finish as well. Kind of like how some houses have formal stained wood in the living/dining, and paint-grade pine in the kitchen.

It is a tight space by the chair! I was looking at arch lamps also.

I’d like to stay $150-200 on a rug. We have dogs and are very frugal.

I’d like to keep the curtains. I got both pairs for $20 and I like that it has a modern, neutral, minimal pattern. I thought about solid white but I know that is a very trendy look right now. I do also plan to swap out my curtain rods as well.

Oh, good, I was going to look up some other sites to see the best price ... totally forgot about Amazon.

I’m very impressed with how it’s holding up, and love the softness. I think your curtains are perfectly fine, was just curious so I wouldn’t suggest a rug that clashed. I like your style!

That rug is great. Curious what size rug are you getting ( and is that a Queen or King bed)?

Hi! We have a queen and the rug is an 8 X 10. I measured a 9 X 12, but the placement of the bed in my room makes the rug sit wonky when it’s a 9 x 12. I’m a little OCD so I need symmetry. 😬

I am going to get this one. Very similar.
I pick it up today. I’m going to add a couple of new pillow covers for my lumbar and chair pillow to work in some additional colors. 🥰
