Small Living Room as a future Dining Room
Comments (5)"can 11.5 x 16 work for dining?" That's going to be hard for anyone else to answer without seeing your floor plan, because you may need to account for walkways, door swings, etc. (Also we don't know the size and shape of the table you are trying to fit, how many people you want to seat, or if there will be other furniture in the room.) In general, I've seen guidelines of 30" to 48" from table edge to wall, with 30" being the minimum and more being better. Horizontally at least 24" per person with more at the ends (for leg room), and possibly more depending on the size of your chairs and your guests. Create a layout drawn to scale, with your table drawn to scale in it....See MoreRug size under queen bed? Show your 5x7 and 6x9 rugs in small rooms
Comments (8)Tried to edit my original post but kept getting errors. The problem with all the "DO" rules is my room is irregular in that where the bed is is only 9'6" wide therefore the rule of the big rug is out the window - which my husband says was created and pushed by the rug industry to make you buy the more expensive rug LOL. So I'm stuck with.... 8x10 - if I turn the rug 'long ways' and fit all the way up to the headboard would leave about 9" of bare floor on the sides, stick out 3' past the foot of the bed (which is fine) and cause uneven nightstands likely to adjust, could stick felt pads under the 2 legs. 6.5x9 - would leave only 3" bare floor each side basically filling that space, leaving the nightstands free. 5x7.5 - would leave ~15" sticking out, enough to put your feet on but hardly enought to see the rug I love. May have to find another location for this rug and stick w the runners. We have limited time there as it's a vacation property we're trying to fix up to rent and wanted to have things pre-purchased. Wayfair has some fast shipping so may have to just wait and map it out w the tape....See Morevery small, odd shaped living room with no room for a couch, help!
Comments (10)Hey Mikeala, while you may have to make some compromises due to space restrictions, you can definitely fit a compact couch in the room. As @mindshift recommends, it would a good idea to keep all your furniture compact and as small as possible. I've made a couple of options for you here. (All dimensions are approximated from the images you have posted) For the first layout, I've eliminated the coffee table and added a slim console by the entrance, a wall mounted TV and an end table. You could also buy nested tables so you could stack them when they aren't being used. For the area by the staircase, I've added a tall bookcase and a couple of chairs for extra seating. adding a mirror would give a sense of a larger space, I've styled this room with modern furniture with a touch of hollywood glam. For the second option, the entrance is more open although the TV unit has been placed on the large wall. This allows TV viewing from both seating areas and yet separates the space. You may prefer this layout if you don't like the idea of having a living right at the entrance. I've styled this room with Scandinavian furniture. Do send us measurements and photos so we could further customize these for you. You could also add/ swap furniture and make your own layouts here....See MoreSmall living room dining room combo
Comments (9)Is this for your everyday table needs? Or if it is for entertaining guests, how many do you want to seat at one time? How many people do you want to seat in front of the TV? That's a small table 42" x 30". If you imagine using a 24" width X 12" depth place mat for each person, you see that your table fits 4 people (one on each side) with a 6 inch space down the middle for serving dishes. There's no point in having all that bench seating if the table only fits 4. Consider getting 4 chairs - much more comfortable than bench seats. Be aware that living room side chairs sometimes have the wrong seat height to use as a dining chair. And if your table has a box apron all around, the arms may not fit under the table....See Morems_payal
