Small living room dining room combo

Hello, My husband and I are about to move into a small duplex. There is no dining room, but I think the living room is big enough for a small living room area and maybe a 4 seater table against the wall. The room is 14x13. I have an idea, but i can't seem to visualize it. The front door is right in the middle of the 13ft side wall, and the door way is on the opposite wall to one side. Please help!

Draw your room on a piece of paper and take a picture of the drawing and post it. Tell us what your idea is for seating. What size TV do you have? Can you show us pictures of the furnis you already have that you would really like to keep?

And there's a window. Sofa and rug are from previous tenant.

Are you buying furniture or do you already have some? Will there be a TV in the room? Is there no room in the kitchen for the table?

Your rooms have such great architectural elements! When I read through the post and realized the age of the house, it makes so much sense. Really wonderful dimensions, too. Seeing the extra chairs in your dining room, have you considered extending the leaves in the table to better balance the space? I notice the furniture is the same tones and/or wood? If so, do you have pieces in other colors/textures (perhaps from other rooms) that would provide more variety? You have good pieces with which to work. I'm sorry to say this, but it's the wall-to-wall carpet with the rugs that is distracting to me. Do you have larger area rugs to layer, or remove those area rugs altogether and see how it looks? I also like the living room wall color. For the dining room, how about two shades lighter from the living room color from the same paint strip? Your dog looks so sweet! What a cutie!

Cute place, i see the challenge, but I am really against a sectional in this space let alone for guest to have to sit next to each other it creates a weird dynamic. I hope you are not planning to put the tv over the fireplace that would also be a neck breaker. I see the couch on the side the two red chairs. the tv on the wall with the lockers and 2 chairs to the dining room side.

The table top in your inspiration pic caught my attention. It's not the usual furniture showroom table top. How do you furnish a small room that is a living room/kitchen combo?

You gotta draw it on graph paper, and then cut out pieces the size of an apartment couch, etc., and move them around. My first idea is couch facing windows with a cafe table behind the couch, and TV in the corner. You could also try couch floating with it's back to the fridge wall and bedroom hallway, and a TV on the bottom wall with a dropleaf table there too (chairs on left and top sides). It might be more flexible to try arranging 2-3 small armchairs instead of a couch, as easier to allow walkways and still have a conversational arrangement possible...

do you need 4 seats all the time or just when you have guest. Maybe a nice drop leaf table for you and your husband to use, with 2 dining chairs, then 2 chairs that can be both living room chairs and dining chair, plus a new apartment size sofa.

The kitchen barely has room for a 2 seater table. We will have a tv in this room. And we have some furniture but willing to start over.

Maybe some of the furniture, rugs etc. you may already have can be used. We don't know unless you show it to us. Can you take pictures, and tell us how long your sofa is?

Your one photo showed us the door and part of the sofa. Is this what your space looks like?

Here's whats in my head, but i fear it might be too much. The 50 in Tv is a keeper. The bookshelf and sofa can be replaced.

Is this for your everyday table needs? Or if it is for entertaining guests, how many do you want to seat at one time? How many people do you want to seat in front of the TV?

That's a small table 42" x 30". If you imagine using a 24" width X 12" depth place mat for each person, you see that your table fits 4 people (one on each side) with a 6 inch space down the middle for serving dishes.

There's no point in having all that bench seating if the table only fits 4. Consider getting 4 chairs - much more comfortable than bench seats. Be aware that living room side chairs sometimes have the wrong seat height to use as a dining chair. And if your table has a box apron all around, the arms may not fit under the table.
