Need help redoing master bedroom

Hi!

My husband and I want to COMPLETELY redo our master bedroom. It hasn’t gotten much love as the kids rooms, and rest of the house, has gotten. We tend to put this room on the back burner, as you can see from the pictures! Anyways, we would love a statement wall where out bed is. Not wallpaper, but something where you walk in and your eyes are drawn to it. Any ideas? Also, I need help with a new paint color, bedroom furniture, and decor. We will be replacing the carpet with hardwood, so area rug suggestions would be great, too. I’m not into uber modern. I love the farmhouse and classic “southern” styles (of that is a thing).

Just look at this as a blank slate, what would you do?

Also, I do have a bed skirt, it is just being washed!

Start with the hardwood floors so you know what color you're working with. Update your light near the door and change the fan to a new chandelier. Then think about what colors you are drawn to, that coordinate with the rest of your home. Choose your furniture and rug before you decide on wall color. I'd look for a bed with a tall headboard that doesn't require a bedskirt.

Thank you very much for the ideas! I have this as an “inspiration photo” for the statement wall. Thoughts? I don’t want to do something that will become dated quickly.

Olychick, I totally agree with you about variation and depth. That's what I was going for, even though I know I haven't achieved it yet. I love texture in decorating. I bet softening even just a few of the edges more will go a long way towards what you're saying. This is definitely a work in progress. I really wish the lighting was better. I will dig out my real camera and try to get some better shots. Thanks, rafor. I also agree with you about the sharp edge of the top of the white panel. DH suggested dental moulding, but I don't like that idea. I'm more inclined to put up a thin, one- or two-inch shelf with shells and stuff up there as I describe in my OP to funk up the top of it...haha...love that!

I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

Option one with a smaller budget is to keep the same layout, swap the existing tub for a free-standing one. 5'6 wide shower is enough for 2, it looks like the length of it is about the same minus the bench. You can always shrink the vanities to expand the shower , you defiantly don't need 11'5 for vanity's. Option two if budget allows to re-route the plumbing, you can do the entire bathroom over-haul like moving the wall and vanities forward to expand the closet, shrink the vanity space and move the toilet on the vanity wall and the rest will be all shower. Maybe something like this to give you an idea Good luck

Yes, I think pink is a beautiful color for a master bedroom! The trick is picking the right pink and then balancing it with other elements that are not overly feminine. I love pink and brown together, or black. When choosing a grownup ink go to the brown section in your color deck. As you move up to the lighter colors you will see what I refer to as dirty pinks. These are softer, more pleasing pinks that men can love.

How about going with traditional molding rather than that "paneling." I am not a pro so cannot say if that will become dated, but I can say with confidence that beautiful molding will never go out of style.

I like your inspiration photo for a statement wall. If you are planning to DIY, I dont see it as a big risk if it is trendy or not. If you have liked the decisions you have made in the rest of your house, I would think you would like the decision you make on that wall as well.
