Vaccine Question
Comments (7)"Hepatitis B vaccination General information Adults who seek protection from hepatitis B virus infection may receive a 3-dose series of single-antigen hepatitis B vaccine (HepB) (Engerix-B, Recombivax HB) at 0, 1, and 6 months. Adults may also receive a combined hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccine (HepA-HepB) (Twinrix) at 0, 1, and 6 months. Acknowledgment of a specific risk factor by those who seek protection is not needed. Special populations Adults at risk for hepatitis B virus infection by sexual exposure should receive a HepB series, including sex partners of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive persons, sexually active persons who are not in a mutually monogamous relationship, persons seeking evaluation or treatment for a sexually transmitted infection, and men who have sex with men (MSM). Adults at risk for hepatitis B virus infection by percutaneous or mucosal exposure to blood should receive a HepB series, including adults who are recent or current users of injection drugs, household contacts of HBsAg- positive persons, residents and staff of facilities for developmentally disabled persons, incarcerated, healthcare and public safety workers at risk for exposure to blood or blood-contaminated body fluids, younger than age 60 years with diabetes mellitus, and age 60 years or older with diabetes mellitus at the discretion of the treating clinician. Adults with chronic liver disease including, but not limited to, hepatitis C virus infection, cirrhosis, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, and an alanine aminotransferase (ALT) or aspartate aminotransferase (AST) level greater than twice the upper limit of normal should receive a HepB series. Adults with end-stage renal disease including those on pre-dialysis care, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and home dialysis should receive a HepB series. Adults on hemodialysis should receive a 3-dose series of 40 μg Recombivax HB at 0, 1, and 6 months or a 4-dose series of 40 μg Engerix-B at 0, 1, 2, and 6 months. Adults with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection should receive a HepB series. Pregnant women who are at risk for hepatitis B virus infection during pregnancy, e.g., having more than one sex partner during the previous six months, been evaluated or treated for a sexually transmitted infection, recent or current injection drug use, or had an HBsAg-positive sex partner, should receive a HepB series. International travelers to regions with high or intermediate levels of endemic hepatitis B virus infection should receive a HepB series. Adults in the following settings are assumed to be at risk for hepatitis B virus infection and should receive a HepB series: sexually transmitted disease treatment facilities, HIV testing and treatment facilities, facilities providing drug-abuse treatment and prevention services, healthcare settings targeting services to persons who inject drugs, correctional facilities, healthcare settings targeting services to MSM, hemodialysis facilities and end-stage renal disease programs, and institutions and nonresidential day care facilities for developmentally disabled persons."...See MoreTHE vaccination
Comments (113)terrilynn, we still wear masks and social distance here, out in public, but I am not worried about getting Covid again, since I am immune. There are updated PubMed reports on Durable Cars Covid 2 now, if you've had mild to severe cases (and most likely even asymptomatic-but the reports aren't out on those yet) of Covid-immunity is much longer now, 8 to 9 months-and with the probability of total immunity. They can't check it any longer, since Covid 19 is only a year old. But, I will let everyone do their own research, and of course each individual needs to be comfortable with their individual decisions. I'm definitely not trying to talk anyone into my thinking but, just know, the CDC is very slow at getting info out. I think it's best, everyone do their own research and not depend solely on CDC or especially the media. Heck, for example, they were very slow at stating people should be taking Vitamin D, and I had been taking it 5 months before they came out with the info. And, that is just one example. Ridiculous. Oklahoma should be reaching herd immunity by April, if they keep up with the vaccines as well as they are now. Now, if other states were doing as well. At least Texas is doing a great job too, good to know, as we go to the Dallas area quite a bit. California is doing horribly at getting people vaccinated, I hear. Unless that's changed in the last week. Hope so. And, kudos to West Virginia for being the best!...See MoreDid you get your second Covid vaccine?
Comments (82)When I got my 1st dose on Friday, I was given information about the CDC's app for reporting side effects, called V-safe. As part of this, the CDC will contact you via the app to ask how you are, any problems, any illness. I hope that any of you who have had side effects (I had a rash the next day, that lasted about 16 hours) have downloaded it and are participating. This is how we can help to know just how effective the vaccines are as well as the issues people are having with them....See MoreThose that had Covid and received their vaccines, question
Comments (16)Judy, with all the friends, family, acquaintances who have had shots and such varied reports of how they might have felt - I think it's impossible to anticipate how one might react to first or second shots or which manufacturer ;0) Everyone's trying to be helpful in achieving high numbers of vaccinating, and the truth is we just don't know, it's all over the board. My sis had no reaction at all to her second Pfizer and painted her living room. My mother (94 next month) did not even complain of sore arm - with either shot. We were a little 'iffy' with the second shot for one day but nothing to really complain about. And, why 'we' when we are a couple by contract, not related by blood. My sis will typically have more of a reaction to a vaccine than I do (i.e. shingles vac), or a med of any kind might affect her more, and she breezed through her Covid shots. While I thought I did well, I wouldn't say 'breezed'.... Best of luck to you, and I hope you have very minor reactions. Keep in mind its worth it, you are adding a heavy layer of protection for yourself and for those around you....See Morepekemom
