Lighting Bathrooms Design Dilemma

lighting for 60” vanity with double mirrors

Would love your input on my master bath reno. We have a 60” vanity sandwiched between 2 walls, the left wall is the knee wall/glass of shower. Excuse my poor attempt at visualizing this, but the painters tape is the size of the mirrors, 20x30. The mirrors are centered above the 2 bowls (the height placement isn’t accurate here, I can hang them higher). This leaves me with 5” on each side. I know lights on the sides of mirrors is best, so ideally I wanted to do a small sconce on either side, with maybe one in the middle as well? I have found a few sconces that are 4” wide. Will this be too tight?? Here are the sconces I was considering.

I will say that I do not agree that sconces are the best choice for lighting in a bathroom IMO really good lighting that lights the whole bathroom is the best lighting . I like one bar light over each sink and the bulbs either halogen or LED but the brighter the better

I think you'll make yourself crazy trying to squeeze sconces into the available space. I would find lights for above the mirror -- they could be sleek horizontal bars or something with a downward-facing light. People have been using those to get ready for decades just fine.

I had a similar situation and I ended up not doing medicine cabinets at all. Medicine cabinets, in my view, seriously limit your flexibility. If you have any ability to build a tall, narrow cabinet somewhere else, you can just do a framed mirror and cut out holes for the sconces. I think that two is plenty for 60". It might be nice to put a soffit over and sink lights into the soffit to add some overhead light. You also might look at the pendant lights. Take a look at Robern's website. They have pretty cool cabinets that open up like a garage door. They show them with the pendants hanging in front.

i don't think they come in doubles, I am having no luck trying to paste the picture, it is similar to the dark vanity's sconces above, they are long and tubular. I will have to graph it out. Actually I think I will have to wait, because I have no idea where the bowls of the sink lie on this granite top. Ok, think I have solved my dilemma, I really need to wait for the granite top, not knowing the sink placement, and having one wall abutting the vanity. Then I shall attack it with graph paper.

If a "smaller" 36 inch medicine cabinet is okay for you, I would suggest the Jensen Granville (755379). It already has lights attached to it and comes in he same color and classic style as your vanity. Also a bit narrower, just 32 inch, but more modern and elegant is the Lighted Vanity Mirror by Mirrors and Marble: Matchin your style perfectly and fiitin in size as it is 48 inch wide is the Concord by Design House. In terms of scale I would take the last one. Add 3 or 4 lights and enjoy. Hint: The more diffuse the light source, the more beautiful you look in your new bathroom cabinet ;)
