Remodeling Design Dilemma Bathrooms

What size mirrors and lights above a double vanity?

We are wanting to put two medicine cabinets above a 60" double vanity. We are thinking rectangular mirrors and a 2 light bar above each. What would look best though? What size mirrors? Is a 2 light bar above each best? Single sconces probably wouldn't be enough lighting. Thanks for any insight!

I think 24 inch would work that would leave 12'' between the mirrors.

If a "smaller" 36 inch medicine cabinet is okay for you, I would suggest the Jensen Granville (755379). It already has lights attached to it and comes in he same color and classic style as your vanity.

Also a bit narrower, just 32 inch, but more modern and elegant is the Lighted Vanity Mirror by Mirrors and Marble:

Matchin your style perfectly and fiitin in size as it is 48 inch wide is the Concord by Design House.

In terms of scale I would take the last one. Add 3 or 4 lights and enjoy. Hint: The more diffuse the light source, the more beautiful you look in your new bathroom cabinet ;)

Don't know if there is a "standard" size. We had all our bathroom mirrors custom framed as we needed sizes that fit our own individual needs. In the powder room that meant a mirror that would work with a 7' ceiling and for dh who's 6'3". Not easy! The mirror is 26" x 38". The vanity is 52" with sconces. In the kids bathroom we needed mirrors that would also work for much shorter children AND tall parents or guests. Here the vanity is 84" with 2 sinks and lighting above the mirrors. The mirrors are 24" x 36". The ensuite bathroom has a vanity that is slightly shorter but also with two sinks and lighting above the mirrors which are the same size as in the kids bathroom. All mirrors have frames that are 2 1/2" or 3" wide. I like the look of mirrors with wider frames but that wouldn't have worked with the function we needed, i.e. work for short and tall people.

i don't think they come in doubles, I am having no luck trying to paste the picture, it is similar to the dark vanity's sconces above, they are long and tubular. I will have to graph it out. Actually I think I will have to wait, because I have no idea where the bowls of the sink lie on this granite top. Ok, think I have solved my dilemma, I really need to wait for the granite top, not knowing the sink placement, and having one wall abutting the vanity. Then I shall attack it with graph paper.

I have a 8ft vanity in my hall bath. sorry I don’t have a better picture. My sinks are 15x20” in a 24“ sink base. The mirrors 24”x36”. They are Crate and Barrel‘s Colby. Mine are satin nickel but they come in chrome too. They were on sale over the 4th but they’re back to the regular price now. If you sign up for their emails they will give you a discount. My scones are Quoizel’s Kolt. They also come in nickel or polished chrome. I bought them locally but they are available on many lighting websites.

22-24" wide would work. Are you doing recessed medicine cabinets?

I agree with having a 22-24” fixture centered over each mirror. This will give you enough eye pleasing space between them and on the exterior.

You can still add sconces on either side of the mirrors for additional lighting if you like! I wanted to add sconces for our new vanity (72”, will have two 23” LED bar style fixtures) but my husband is not a fan of them. I compromised as other things were higher on my priority list!

We've added a few of our designs to show you what we did in some of our clients bathrooms. Putting in recessed lights in the ceiling can work to your advantage as well. Also check into mirrors which already have lights in them.
