I think your sofa is too large for your space, and having the L shaped extension leaves too little space. Why not put down some tape on the floor, or cut out some pieces of cardboard to see for yourself. Are you allowing space for tables, lighting, etc.?

for what it's worth- I believe sofa w/ ottoman is the way to go in almost all circumstances- super flexible. Gives you a sofa w/ chaise when you want it - extra seating when you need it, more room when you need it. Put a tray on it, and it's spare table when you need it. Also, I personally like how it looks (but that's subjective obviously)

I am allowing space for other furniture. I did find another couch that is L shape but the arm part is shorter (for one maybe 2 people). I'm leaning towards it just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I just need a little more seating than what my current couch and oversized chair and ottoman allows. Thanks for you advice!

Neither of those choices IMO Sectionals are the most expensive way to buy the fewest comfortable seats and chaises really neglect a whole seat when entertaining. I agree a sofa with an ottoman is a much better choice and asofa and 2 chairs for actual seating in a space just better all the way around. I often do the chairs with ottomans if you have the space and then the ottomans can become extra seating for kids. If you reall y want help post a to scale plan of the space and some pictures.

Thanks for your input! I'm so embarrassed to post a picture of my current sofa (it's over 15 years old and survived, barely, 2 dogs and 3 kids!). Excuse the jumble of stuff - I've been cleaning out and stockpiling stuff until I find homes for them as I redecorate. lol. My space isn't very big, and it's more narrow. I just think having 2 chairs (with sofa) would be too bulky looking for the space which is why I was looking at the sectionals.
