What does your paperwork say about seam location and the overhang?

No details on seam location or overhang sizing. The work was done by a sub contractor hired by our general contractor. The paperwork with general contractor includes material description, edge style/ lamination, corresponding kitchen plan and pricing.

The only real issue here is tweaking the color in the seam a bit. The seam itself is nice and tight. Seams will never ever be invisible. That’s an incorrect expectation. Everything else is perfect. You don’t want 4” overhangs in your island there. That would be weird. That's another incorrect expectation. Unless you’re talking about how your edge choice reduces usable counter space? That’s be because you chose that edge. That’s one of the tradeoffs of an picking an elaborate ogee like that.

This is mostly an expectations issue. And I’m not sure where you got some of your expectations, or why your designer didn’t dispel them.

Thank you for the feedback. We would like to make sure our expectations are correct. I have an issue with the color of the seam. It looks much dirtier in person then the pictures portrait, hopefully an easy fix. The installer encouraged doing a lamination for a higher end look which we absolutely regret - looks like lego slabs stacked on top of each other. The sizing of the lamination gaps is not consistent around the perimeter - 1-3mm, corners have different shaping.

From your pics there is not horrible here and from the fact that you did not sign off on a layout but just signed an overall contract that this is a tract or developer home. Is this correct? If so you will not have much ground to stand on in an argument.

Thank you millworkman. This is a custom whole house reconstruction - our home was destroyed by a tornado. For a 6k+ countertops job I would expect sub-contractor to pay more attention to detail.

I hear your frustration. And I feel your stress through the phone. 🤦‍♀️. From what I can see in the picture the seam looks fine. I agree with you on the overhang looking a bit small. Ask. Doesn’t hurt to ask the GC what happened. Were these the measurements you oked? ( I’m not asking you , this is what I think you should say to the GC lol) it’s not bad. At all! I’ve seen a whole lot worse and this is definitely overseeable. But again. Why not ask. I also feel like you’ll feel better about it if it was your mistake. Anyways regardless the kitchen looks really nice. Love all the white and that refreshing pop of blue. Best of luck.

That island edge detail is just odd ... it looks like it was put on upside down.

They used clear adhesive for the seam which shows up as a medium gray. Should have used factory color match. Look it up on Integra Adhesive's color chart please.

Used the same for the edge lamination apparently.
