Help stage my living room
Comments (5)I had a college professor who thought the best way to rearrange furniture was exactly as you posted above... with a schematic and cut out pieces furniture placed wherever he thought it should go. His wife had other ideas, and used to make him actually move the furniture as it gave her the best grasp of site, flow and functionality. I agree with the wife, but will make a few suggestions that may or may not work for your areas. Because the room is chopped up with doorways you may want to float the tan sofa in front of the fireplace. Place the glass console table behind the couch if it is tall enough. If it doesn't look odd, diagonally place the tan microfiber sofa to the right of the fireplace, and place a coffee table beside it. Place the ikea chair to the left of the fireplace. If the space looks very bare, place the coffee table in front of the couch. Alternatively, you can have the two blue sofas face each other in front of the fireplace with the coffee table in the middle. Place the glass console table to the left of the fireplace against the wall. Float the ikea chair to the right. Place one end table next to the ikea chair. Do you have a rug to put underneath the two blue sofas or in front of the tan couch? Either idea will look VERY bare to you. You may want to add a few more pieces, but resist over furnishing. The room looks very small to me, and less furniture should make it look bigger. If the area open to the dining room is big enough to be a small sitting area, you may want to table the ficus tree and put it behind a chaise, or off center a bit behind it. Put an end table towards the wall and stage the area as a "retreat"....See MoreStage this room, please
Comments (38)and you will be cutting off a large population of potential buyers if it can be seen that yours is a "cat house." Well, to each his own, I have to say. That's the risk with selling houses. You're always going to lose someone based on something they don't like. I have to admit, while looking for our new house in Maryland last month, there were several properties that we eliminated on the drive-by because they were either right next to a high school or there was "evidence" of several children living in the house next door. (I have a DD of my own so don't anyone go calling me bad names or anything - I just don't like listening to screaming kids all day or looking at their toys strewn across the front lawn or having to ask them politely 15 times a day to please stop stomping on my roses/picking my flowers/playing football on my lawn - ditto for a high school full of that whole scene. That is something a new owner cannot change... my having cats doesn't mean the new owner is going to have to live with them!) And if they're that allergic, they really shouldn't buy this house anyway if they fear they won't ever get rid of the dander, and I'm not offended. Next contestant, please. So, like I said, to each his own. I am trying to find the best way to minimize their presence. Otherwise, I never would have posted this thread....See MorePowder Room Professionally Staged and I'm still unhappy with it!
Comments (49)Hi extremely patient GW virtual decorators, I took rosewindÂs advice and found a few inspirational bathrooms and/or powder rooms. I love the last two bathrooms the best!! I found them on Rate My Space and what I like about them is their simplicity and clean lines. I included bathrooms with pedestal sinks and/or bead board with the same clean lines. This is my dilemma, aesthetically speaking, should your home be decorated in a cohesive manner? Can I paint and decorate this room as a separate entity of its own or should it blend with the rest of my home? What IÂd like to do is paint it either grayish blue or grayish green so that the molding and baseboards pop. IÂd then paint the mirror frame metallic silver and change the toilet paper dispenser and towel ring to match the mirror. IÂm still not sure what to use to store extra toilet paper. IÂve included pictures of my entry, dining and living room since theyÂre the rooms surrounding this one. The powder room is to the left of the stairs if youÂre facing it from the outside. All this trouble for one teeny tiny room. Thanks...See MoreStaging the living room - tell me if I'm on the right track?
Comments (27)jackieblue, the windows look fine from the outside. It helps that one is in the corner of an L and the other one on a longer wall. I'm not following your angled chairs or loveseat idea though. I think nosoccermom and Annie are right about the curtains. I tried that when we first moved here and it didn't look good, but there was a light switch between the left window and fireplace then too. Now that it's gone, it should work. I'll worry about curtains once I get the big furniture figured out. I like that plan too geokid. I'm not crazy about the path between the loveseats and little chair though. I don't think I'd be able to use a rug with that arrangement without having the corner of it in the way. And no, there won't be a tv in there. So far I've found two red loveseats on craigslist, one yellow one, and one that looks to be light brown. And tons of old plaid and florals. I like the red ones, except that they are red and most staging I've seen is done with neutral colors....See More- 3 years ago
