What's your opinion of the Covid vacine?
Comments (77)The two vaccines by Pfizer and AstraZeneca use different methods, but both appear effective. Pfizer is a little ahead of AstraZeneca in the approval process and is expected to be the first one available. However, there is a serious storage and transportation problem with Pfizer's vaccine. It must be stored at -70 C (-94 F). I believe this is beyond the capability of present refrigeration at most pharmacies. That depth of refrigeration is found only in special units in a some test labs. That equipment is not widely available. Special chests with compressors are needed to transport the vaccine over distances requiring significant time, and the refrigeration unit will need a continuous power source. Furthermore, there has been a strange lack of data about how long the vaccine remains viable once warmed to 35 to 40 F (kitchen refrigerator temperature). This stirs my suspicion that it is not a very long period. My view: Pfizer will be the first one deployed, and in the longer run AstraZeneca will win due to the storage demand of Pfizer's offering....See MoreDid anyone watch CNN last night?
Comments (42)💉💉💉 Pfizer says it will be unlikely to have additional Covid vaccine for the US until the summer. It’s been reported that months ago the US had an opportunity to contract for many more doses but declined. That’s very unfortunate. There is some moderate immunity conferred after the first shot, so that’s good news. The side effects felt after the second injection (a few weeks later) are along the lines of those experienced by the second Shingles shot — sore arm at the injection site for a day or two, and some feeling of blah all over. Just for a day or so. This demonstrates that the person’s immune system is responding. The vaccine has NO virus in it, but instead just a piece of the genetic code of the virus. There is no way that the vaccine can cause the virus in those injected. Dr. Kavita (sp) Patel (MSNBC) said she got to read some of the documents and details and is optimistic. A few weeks ago, she was waiting to see that information before committing to taking it. In Wales, vaccinations have begun and their system of prioritizing and administering (the logistics, and set up) seem exceptionally well organized and thought out. Wales has been hit very hard. From some of the video footage and narrative on MSNBC, it appears that after the vaccine has been removed from the very cold freeze, it can be administered within a five day window. I am feeling better about this. Oh, and as many of you might know, a lot of this vaccine development had been somewhat researched during the similar SARS epidemic. So researchers were not starting from a blank slate....See MoreEfficiency in the kitchen - tools techniques etc
Comments (13)”Lady” hammer brought such a smile. My father gave me a ”hammer” when I was in college. It was probably a freebie. All metal, shiny, with an integrated claw head and perforated rubberized grip. So unbalanced it didn't even know the word ”balance”. Perfect for picture hooks and similar you-could-use-a-shoe kinds of household hammering. Useless for driving nails. No tears if lost. I still have it. After we moved here, so many years later, he was over helping me with something, swore genteelly at my hammer, and went to get his own hammer...which he then tried to give me. His favorite hammer. Like I even had the strength and skill to drive nails, even if I had some reason to (and they do go in if you rap them five times with a bad hammer). I wouldn't accept it. I had no need for a good hammer. It's not that there was ever any doubt of it, but what better testament to true and abiding love is there than a man who tries to give his adult daughter his favorite hammer?...See MoreFlu shots?? Comments (76)Made a last minute decision to get both the flu shot and latest C booster and our pharmacist (I like him - he's been very helpful in the past with DH's RL) was able to accommodate us. We did C left and flu R at the pharmacist's recommendation. I have 2 tight, tender upper arms but nothing more and slept well enough. DH on the other hand went to bed feeling unwell, a bit feverish and did not sleep well. I think the difference is I have had Moderna all the way from the beginning and he has had Phizer until yesterday. He's feeling slow this morning but likely due to lack of sleep more than anything else....See MoreDed tired
