I gave up months ago with doing something beyond trimming my bangs. I recently gave up that. and purchased a bunch of combs to keep it out of my eyes. Discovered that placing the combs in pairs with the teeth facing each other, sort of works. My hair is too slick for most things to stay in. I remember the days when you wore a pony tail or pulled your hair back with a scarf holding things together. I lost so may hair ornaments I finally just let things grow then tucked them behind my ears.

One of the interesting things is although I have hair on the top of my head, so far, the hair on the sides of my head are thicker. If I did not run my fingers through my head when washing I would never have discovered. My bangs such as they are when they grow further will become the length of the rest. For summer heat I am planning on moving to the top of the head rather than cutting to a shorter style. Will see how long that lasts. I still have the dog grooming kit that I used to use. I have thought of removing all of it for a summer bob.

I have wondered if longer hair would also become popular again among men and how long that longer hair would be. Most of my male friends for want of a better term are mature and went through the long hair stage long ago.

I've used my Gingher dressmaking shears to trim bangs. That's about as far as I've gone with a self haircut this year. I have my own Gingher shears, and two pair of my mothers here (she sewed and worked with fabrics, textiles WAY more than I ever did).

If I were going to look into DIY hair shears I might look at Tweezermans. Would not make the hundreds of dollars investment to buy those like my stylist uses ;0)

FWIW, I believe both fabric shears and hair cutting shears have tiny grooves in the blades that help grip what you're cutting and keep from slipping.

Still using my vacuum cleaner powered Flowbee. But I use scissors similar to the link Lars shared, as well as a thinning scissors so I can avoid that "just cut" look. My hair is thick on top and not so thick on the sides. Thinning Scissors

I've been cutting my hair since I was 16 years old. My mother gave me a pair of hair scissors, like the ones Lars linked to, before I left home. . ☺ I cut both my husbands and my hair. I do get HIS hair wet, mine I do dry.

I just got my first hair cut in a year. I usually do it myself until it gets out of control. I have many scissors, usually bought from the beauty supply store.

martinca.....☺ I've been in another country and my husband turns to me and says, "I need a hair cut. BAD!" ☺ Just what I want to do on my vacation...cut someone's hair. I borrowed the receptionists scissors. ♥ I'm sure there's a pair of scissors for $365 that I'd like better....but.....the hair cut would look the same. ☺

For a home cut just buy the least expensive. Scissors
