Comments (65)This chart is from 2013 and shows the percentage allocation of various rooms for new builds. I will have about 2200 square feet on the main floor and 2000 finished in the basement. At only 16*16, my master bedroom is small according to this chart...however that is in part due to we chose not to have a separate “sitting area” as we will have the master deck to serve that purpose 9+ months out of the year. DH actually wanted a full wrap around porch. That is the only thing I vetoed. (He did not want a deck blocking his living room view though). I would imagine he will hang out in the master deck a lot watching for wildlife. For a 3,000+ finished home, it shows a master bathroom of 210 sq feet, mine is 194. For the same size home, it shows closet space of 201. That is about the size of both master closets. I would assume that the 201 must mean ALL closet space in the house. I am hoping for 5*8 closets in each kids rooms as I like to keep most of their toys organized in the closets. That would be 120 sq feet right there....so I may be over the closet sq footage, but Considering most homes lack storage, I am not worried there! My closet is probably the only one that is truly questionable. But I know lots of gals truly enjoy a nice closet space. I doubt I am taking away anything from my husbands’ life by having some extra space here. My pantry space is way out of whack also, but given that we will have a huge garden plus an orchard, I will actually need a basement pantry or an outside root cellar. The only room that we want that we may not get a dedicated space for is an exercise room. I am hoping the basement works to get a defined space for that, but it may get merged with the guest bedroom. We could get it by making the kids rooms smaller. But our current house has a 13*16 room that we turned into a bedroom for our oldest. It is such an awesome space! Our kids have friends over often, and we want them to be able to hang out with large groups in their own rooms (if that is where they want to be). Later, the barn will serve this purpose during warmer weather. In the few years we have been here, my oldest has had 10 girls sleepover each birthday. Her room was large enough to have all those girls have a blast. I am one of the few moms I know who allows that many to stay over. (DH hides in the cabin!). I would imagine my youngest will have a minimum of 15 for her sleepovers when we build. There are 3 times as many girls in her grade and she is more socially active. Comments (32)Take the aluminum wrap off the pot to ensure water can escape through the drain hole. The affected leaves show localized parts of the upper layer of the leaf's superior (top) surface which have been destroyed by photo-oxidation (sunburn). Too much light causes release of a hydrogen atom which joins with a water molecule to form the oxidase H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide), the same chemical compound used to bleach hair and disinfect wounds. H2O2 is a powerful oxidizer which attacks the first organic molecule it comes in contact with, in this case, t was the pigment chlorophyll. The leaves first turned a silver/gray color before desiccation became a player and turned the surface brown. The plant has chemical messengers that will inform plant central when the affected leaves move from being net producers of energy (via photosynthesis) to net USERS of energy. When the plant recognizes the leaves as a liability as opposed to assets, it will start adsorbing mobile nutrients and other compounds from the leaf for use elsewhere in the plant. That means they are still an advantage to the plant; however, the plant appears healthy enough that removing them for aesthetic reasons wouldn't be a significant setback as the leaves are already about 25% compromised insofar as their ability to produce food/energy. Your call. If you decide to remove them, only cut through the petiole (leaf stem) with a pair o scissors an inch or two away from the leaf's attachment point - especially the top leaf. If you cut the top leaf too far back, you could remove the apical meristem at the stem end where all extension growth occurs. Do this, and the trunk will never be able to extend. Instead, a new branch will occur from the new top leaf and take over as the new leader. The problem with that is, it will likely grow in a direction other than up for several feet unless you train it to grow upward as soon as the new branch appears. Comments (18)Kathsgrdn, if you'd wear something like a straw hat, a baseball cap or something similar, do you think that it'd help keep that sticky hair off of your face? Or - maybe one o' them there masks ... on backwards? Hard to keep the elastics anchored though (unless your ear bumpslobes stick out a long way): probably have to run a string (or hook'n loop/Velcro band) around under your nose? Good that summer sweaty time's almost over. I usually shave the evening before going out, did the night before the old guys were to meet for coffee, cookies and conversation at the village church on Mar. 11, and it was that weekend that the lockdown started ... so I figured that if I didn't shave, I'd need fewer razor blades. Beard now long enough that if I grab the end of a hair part way along the jaw and swing one way, I touch the ear and the other way, the chin. Son takes pics occasionally to send to his sis in Atlanta area. Comments (39)wildchild2x2, I'm with you with our warlock. He can't close anything down though. During the first shutdown all he kept saying was the "science says". Ok show us the science. Some county representatives took him to court and the liar didn't have any proof of science. He lost the case. He still can designate the number of people allowed in a business (not that many business or people are paying attention to him), but that is it. His old rules still apply, but there is always ways around it. Like if you drink you have to have a meal. Like covid knows when your drinking alcohol or not.
