What’s the best way to deal with cracked marble?

Just bought this brand new marble table. Unfortunately there appears to be a small crack on the table top. The store has offered to refund but cannot replace due to the model no longer being carried. The dimensions and everything else is exactly what I need for my apartment so I’m contemplating taking a crack at fixing this myself if it’s minor enough, or whether I should contract a professional.

I’m curious how bad this is, and how this could have happened in the first place. I could have sworn this crack didn’t exist on delivery. But we’ve also owned this table for less than 30 days and it hasnt been subjected to any impacts or other abuse. The only thing I can think of is I work here with my laptop daily. Could heat from a laptop have done this, and should I stop working on marble surfaces if so?

Are you sure that it's marble? That crack looks like one in a man-made material.

Will this work with your profile? Let's say your pencil is 1" wide okay? For the piece that butts into the other, cut the end that does the butting at a 45 degree angle from both sides so it ends up as a "point". That end will be 1" wide, but the point, being 45'd from both sides, will only be 1/2" long. For the piece that gets butted into, cut a 45 degree notch into the side of it that is 1" wide but only 1/2" deep, and it'll have a 45 degree angle on both sides. They should fit nicely together, and there should be no lippage issues with the vertical part of the profile. Hi all, I know this is an old thread but I've been searching for an answer and don't seem to find it anywhere on the web. I recieved a marble table yesterday and was wondering if it was a repaired slab or natural as the veins look misaligned and there is a long hairline separating the veins. Please let me know your opinions. You may have to look at the picture side ways but focus on where the veins stop all of sudden.

You put it on fairly thick or too thinned. Either way you can slather more on top. If it's loose, you'll have to chip it off. One way to avoid it is to use setting compound: the stuff that comes in a bag as a powder.

Hello! I’m gutting my 1 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn (read: small) and plan to install engineered hardwood floors throughout. I’m wondering what color white would be best to use in my entry way. My living room will be painted dark (something like Behr cracked pepper). I have good natural light, west/northwest exposure, and am feeling overwhelmed with my google searches! I’ve attached a render of my kitchen (facing the entryway, which is what I’m looking to paint) and two images of two floors I am considering purchasing. Looks like Bianco Carrara marble but hard to tell from the pictures. Appears to be very very thin so it's hard to say how it broke. Make sure the stone is fully supported underneath.

The information provided by krissie55 is showing a process often used for travertine and with the right epoxy product, process could be similar. I would go with a clear product. The challenge is two fold, thin enough product to get into the crack and then you have a challenge of the residue left on the surface, depending on your finish will determine how much it shows.

A professional can polish it our for you but for a small table, probably not cost effective. As indicated in the video, you can probably use a 0000 steel wool to help remove the residue and hopefully blend in.

I would return it. Do you really want to spend the time, effort and dollars to repair a brand new product?
