Expanding crack in my new countertop!
Comments (8)Bee, I've spoken to the fabricators twice today and they were concerned but didnt seem alarmed. Aside from us (and we're not moved into the kitchen yet), it's only my GC and 2 of his men. They are aware and nowhere near the corner. I remember your post recently about the cracked super white slabs... What a shame! And yes, this is a superwhite. This counter was actually cut from a slab that had cracked during shipment. They cut away from and around the crack. I sure hope that in wasn't a factor in this. Holly, I sure hope it will turn out as simple as that. My main concern is that it's a corner piece and the right, sharp corner away from the sink is not supported. It sits about half an inch above the top of the dishwasher. And it's not even just a crack... But an actual break of the corner. Still, keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best. Gr8day, I'm not exactly certain if this crack was preexisting and previously "glued" back together prior to installation. If that's the case, then it's definitely not a strong piece IMO. We don't want to deal with this same issue 2 months or 2 yrs down the road....See MoreMy new kitchen Granit counter top veins

Comments (4)The cooktop crack was there before install. Apparently fabricator ran out of material and had to use a broken piece (for that specific crack). They said they repaired it but the installers said it would probably need to be addressed. New kitchen and baby, so I’m not really interested in remodeling with a new range....See Morelocation of crack/fissure on marble countertop
Comments (23)No my general contractor and sub contractor contiune to tell me that it is a fissure, even though they are replacing the whole counter top at no cost to me. They refuse to admit any fault and wanted me to ”just live with it.” I refused and was admit that i wanted a new countertop. I would say that yes the structure on my broken countertop has been weak-end. The crack is in the thinest part of the counter top near the sink. It is cracked on the top, bottom, and both sides. If enough weight was in the right spot i could see damage occurring. I personally was more concerned with discoloring from hard water and gunk since my marble is white. I actually didnt even notice the crack for almost a month after install. Then the hard water started getting in and it was yellowing around and inside the crack. They ”polished” it but i could still feel the crack which meant water and such could still get in. I can see why youd be concerned with the structural integrity since your crack is in the kitchen. Does your crack go on all sides like mine? If it was only cracked on top I wouldnt worry to much but if it is cracked all the way around like mine then you might have to be careful with it....See MoreFori
