I can't answer your paint-effect question but depending on what kind of room it is, you may find daylight color bulbs to be a bit harsh. Especially in rooms you spend a lot of time in. Have you used them before in other rooms? If yes, then you know the effect. Good luck.

I've avoided the daylight color bulbs for that very reason. So I don't even have a random one in the house to test with.

You haven't said what kind of room you're dealing with but it's easy enough to run a trial of the light effect (not the wall color) in a different room with just a few bulbs. Return them if you don't like them. See how you feel about them.

Everyone is different, I can't even use daylight bulbs for outdoor lighting. 3000K is about as far as I'm comfortable with. I do actually like 3000K better than 2700K but it's a small difference. 3000K is just a smidge less yellow but still not harsh.

Same here. I like 3000k as well.

Do you have the name of the paint colour?

I have a lot of blue green paint. It had a goldish cast to it, with regular light bulbs. Daylight light bulbs 4000 keep it looking like the exact same color I painted.

Is the apparent rendered color of the walls more important to you than the comfort and acceptability of the light color?

Although normally the answer would be no, Elmer, in this case it is a walk-through dining room which is seldom used. I have something similar to a shotgun house with a straight path from living to dining to kitchen to office. I have candlestick lamps on the back wall that turn on before sunset and go off at midnight; those are the ones I want to experiment with. I mostly use the room when I am sewing on my machine. I would always have the choice of turning on the chandelier for a softer light if I wanted.

I believe Home Depot has a display showing the various lights, so I'm thinking of taking a sample of it there to test. And really, how stark can 5000K be? Guess I will find out.

It's very, very stark and blue. I bought a bulb accidentally and returned it.

Something to consider is the location of the bulb itself and how one would encounter it. For my money, there's a big difference between experiencing an overhead light (recessed cans, ceiling fixtures, a chandelier or other hanging fixture that's up high, etc) where the eye encounters the light of the bulb but mostly not the bulb itself directly, versus something that the eye sees directly - on a wall, in a table lamp, a low hanging fixture, you know what I mean.

Try it out, see how you find it. For me, even a dimmed daylight bulb seen directly is stark and unpleasant. Good luck.

I would go with 3000k and nothing more. Those displays in the store can be helpful but you have to consider they are augmented by the in-store lighting (usually fluorescent) and don't take into account your personal lighting situation.

You probably should paint a sample board and then add the light you plan to use and decide what is best. You may be surprised what the paint looks like under any condition.

Almost all our lighting is on dimmers so we can control the brightness as needed, no matter what the max bulb size we use.
