Need help with my kitchen color scheme
Comments (20)It is a good color, but everything is sooo neutral -- pretty, but too neutral for me. I would paint the walls along the lines of a soft blue, blue-green, green-gray, or sage -- something not loud or strong but a distinctly a color. To me, that would be easier than trying to decide on a fabric especially if I were kind of afraid to commit to a color or pattern. For example, my walls are painted Valspar Ante Meridian and I also have small pops of red and blue in some pottery and glass on the counter and windowsill. Instead of changing the paint, (because that paint color might be what flows best with what you want to do in the rest of the house) the suggestions to use color in fabric, rug and art are excellent. Your current paint would be a good background for many colors as vwhippiechick said. They don't have to be bright colors, unless that is what strikes your fancy! Target and other places have inexpensive rugs similar to your current one but in colors like red and aqua (a currently hot color that I am loving) There are also many places like Target, Pier One, World Market, Kohls, Homegoods and dozens more online where you can browse for wall art and pillows until you find something that really lights up your eyes. I would recommend that you take some time to do that -- just browse and look for a color, pattern or piece of wall art that really strikes a chord with you and use that as your starting point....See MoreIn need of help with style and color scheme please!!!
Comments (20)Pcweary, how is the cabinet stripping on "our" cabinets going? Ive done minimal stripping in my day. Any advice based on what products/methods worked and didnt work for you? Im leaning against the trim and the beadboard veneer afterall. I read the article volleyhead posted, and I think Ill just keep it simple. Im leaning against painting due to the lack of details in the cabinets. I definitely decided against painting them white, as I dont like to clean cabinets. I dont like to clean anything, actually. Having decided against white is another knock against the beadboard and trim idea, because I think that would have looked so nice in white but not many other colors. I read a post by rhome410 on Satin Waterlox on wood, and rhome410 was kind enough to send me pictures of wood that she has done with this product, and it looked good enough to eat! Im very excited, I think I will give that a try on a door and see how it goes. I dont, however, want to strip the face and sides of the cabinets, wonder if I could paint those? Or maybe leave the faces as is and strip the sides. Ill have to experiment and see what color I come up with on the doors first I guess. So, for the moment, that is the current plan. Knowing me Ill be on an entirely different track tomorrow. Amy...See MoreNeed help for kitchen color scheme
Comments (0)Good day. My parents decided to liven up the kitchen, but are having a hard time deciding on color schemes. Initially, they decided an apple green paint as a "backsplash" (we didn't have budget for an actual fancy backsplash) but scrapped that idea when my father watched Brother vs. Brother on HGTV and they pointed out the ugliness of the wall color (green!) in the kitchen on one episode. So I came in here to ask for your help. Here are pictures of our current kitchen: Can someone suggest any possible color schemes? It will be very much appreciated. Thank you!...See MoreNeed help with BM Classic Gray color scheme...
Comments (3)That is a good point. I didn't mention décor details, because the house will be sold this year, and I am trying to go for a neutral look that would appeal to many buyers. Of course I want to like it too, while still living here. I love gray, which happens to be a popular choice, so I am happy playing with shades of gray. But I would welcome any suggestions for other colors that harmonize with gray on adjacent walls. Here are some pieces of furniture that I have: Dining room table - Flatiron from RH (still looking for chairs, I want mismatched chairs to go with it, some weathered wood, some painted): Breakfast nook: white pedestal tableChairs are like these, but bluish/green - no longer sold at PB, so can't find photo: Red cabinet in living room: Family room: Finish on the console is espresso elm: RH English roll arm sofa, color is charcoal: Sold the old coffee table, haven't chosen a new one yet. There is also white built-in shelving in the family room, and a red-white-gray brick fireplace, similar this one: The floors are your standard 90s yellow finish oak, I plan to refinish them to weathered oak or a driftwood-like finish (so that all orange/yellow is gone). Carpet is this (color is "Platinum Mist" - gray): I hope this helps. Thank you again for your time and advice....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
