After a long day of rearranging the LR, hooking up electronics, and being w/o phone/ internet service, I am back!!!! Parma - that's exactly what I envision. Since I do sweep fairly regularly I want to find a real handmade broom to keep in the corner in the kitchen. I'm sure that DS1 would call it mommy's witches broom! Martha Stewart did a segment on handmade brooms one time and I wish I'd have paid more attention. And old flooring - I think the more aged, worn and dinged up it is the better for me! Stinky - Gardener (Great name) -I've actually been buying stuff here and there and packing it away for a few yrs. now. The house that we live in is Victorian on the inside but I've known the house we are moving to for a long time and it's more in line w/ our simple comfort level. There's no way that our current bedroom style would work in the other house but I am very happy w/ it and yrs. down the road I'm sure that it too will morph into a French Country Farmhouse style. For now I just want to enjoy the finished product. Tish - that sounds perfect, European Farmhouse! I will def. have to google that term and see what pops up. I'm thinking that Shabby Chic look too but w/ way less cottage & flower prints and a lot more farm and durability! Kmcg - thank you very much for the link. Guess what I'll be doing during downtime at work today after all of my work is finished?! Polly - that sounds so pretty - hopefully you will opst some pics anyways despite living through a reno. A real nice thing about GW here is that we've seen pics of eachother's homes at their worst. One of my favorite threads was one where everybody had to go take a picture of their kitchen in the moment and post it. It was great to see kitchens in their 'disaray state' that were typically posted after having been 'staged' for their GW photo op.! I really want DR chairs w/ rush seats and a farmhouse table but DH is so attached to his grandmother's fancy set that I don't even want to suggest it. Ronbre - both of your homes sound very lovely. I can see where it would be tough to decorate in the exact same manner after such a horrible event. I'd love to see pics of the man room and your MBR. Tina - right now I have much of the hardwired stuff packed away like my chandeliers and sconces. Most of it I'd pick up at deep discounts when I worked at Bombay. Our storage rm. was laid out so poorly that items would get stuck in the most hidden spots and forgotten about until I'd rip the place apart and find things that had been there for yrs. My 2 favorite chandies were only $59. Currently I visit them in my attic and peek in the boxes and dream. I didn't want to hang them all and then have to turn around and take them down to sell this house and put all of the original stuff back up. If things pan out alright I will take pics of the LR after I have some more stuff done. I def. have to paint again. When DH moved all of the entertainment stuff I forgot that I hadn't painted behind it all. There's a big bright blue patch! I'd also like to pick up a ceiling fan and paint out the ceiling after 9 yrs. here. There are just wires hanging from the ceiling now. Someone here had recently posted a photo of their Baby Turtle walls and Limestone ceiling and it was so gorgeous so I am going to follow suit and do the same.

That IS a cute chair, great score! Grandmotherly in a good way, if that makes any sense... that same feeling of enfolding cuddliness, I can almost smell the sugar cookies and Earl Grey tea. I actually like the matching pillow better, although it needs to be re-stuffed and really plumped up nice and fat - I think the chunky dark pillow breaks up that lovely feminine curve of the back, keeps the eye from moving smoothly over it. Wish the thrift stores around me had such goodies! Although if you don't mind my totally unsolicited random opinion which you are completely free to ignore or even tell me to shut my yap ;-) I wouldn't use a leather club chair for the other chair. I think with the partly-leather couch it could be a bit too heavy and make the yellow chair seem a little bit "all by its lonesome" as both the only all-fabric seating piece and the only pale-colored one (unless you did something like a buff-colored leather, which I just can't see working). I can imagine a small-scale wing chair - a low, almost squatty one to properly balance yellow chair, not a really vertical one (heck, if you lived closer I'd give you one we got as a handmedown that needs reupholstering. Comfy and sturdy and actually the fabric is brand new but but whoever picked that gaudy floral was stoned or something, and I do want a more vertical version) - in a lighter-colored, texturey, flecky fabric picking up colors from your tapestry couch fabric and a little of the red and yellow would be charming, IMO. Then pop a pillow on it that doesn't match anything at all, like an antique-type needlepoint one. If you were going to have two additional chairs besides this new-to-you one, I'd say go for it with one in leather and one in fabric. Oh, and I love the dog in the admiral's hat... is that a print? And if so, who is the artist? If you didn't mind I'd love to get one to go with my other "dogs in uniform" prints. :-)

hate to not have to say anything new lol..but yes of course, it's the backsplash. nice suggestions above. will make tons of difference hardware can be changed or not..i think it's pretty versatile a rug will help to set a tone..but if you're hesitant about rugs-I'd look into changing the lighting fixture for something that'd reflect your taste more it's all easy fixes, relatively speaking. you're not miles from what you envision..you're couple feet away:) yes, paint creams white color..or not a neutral, but a version of some color you love, so it won't fight with the cabinets you can use creams and whites together a lot in decor, but with cabinetry it's harder to swing it; so I'd paint. Brick-up to you. Will look ok whether painted or not, or so I feel. Maybe start with the build ins then decide about brick. You also will probably have your backsplash by then..will help you decide if the backsplash is patterned for example-I'd be tempted to paint the brick more It's not a lot of brick too, so whatever you decide-easier.

Thanks everyone for input. The mirror over sofa was hung on existing hook, if I was keeping it I would move it down some but I still feel its not a good size for that space. Theresa, I love the idea of adding a wreath to soften a mirror if I put one above sofa! The picture of my son is actually a digital painting if seen up close. I'm just worried about adding another piece of art to the room right across from it? Allison, the tree in entryway is holding spot for a lamp. I like the tree but it barely gives off any light. Its pretty tho! I have been along for a tray to put everything together but I don't know what to look for, silver? I have enough gold I think lol. Throwing out an idea, what about a mantel on the empty dining wall that is only 5 inches in depth so it doesn't take up walking space but I can add some candles, etc on top shelf?
