Do these custom vanity proportions look right?
Comments (14)That gives me a lot to think about. I appreciate you playing around with my design. Option 1 doesn't give me counterspace, but I originally thought of a separate furniture-look linen closet with a bigger vanity. But we now prefer to put a linen cabinet like that in the open area that's between the bathroom and laundry closet. It's a squarish shape that all the bedroom doors open into, not a long hallway. A linen closet in that space is convenient to all the bedrooms and the laundry closet. Option 2 is one I would do in a heartbeat if it was the master bath. I would probably make the towers 12" and add some counter space to the sink. Might cut out the hutch drawers and save some $. The only thing I don't like is that it shifts the person at the sink almost opposite the door, and that just doesn't feel right to me for some reason. But I could get used to it. Now #3 is interesting because I could do 12" drawers to the left and it wouldn't shove me so far over in front of the door while at the sink. I could use sconces, which would give me some light at the mirrored hutch. I like the idea of standing in front of the hutch for grooming instead of leaning over the sink. I'm not too sure about the drawers below the hutch being a different size, and evening them up adds more small drawers I don't need. I wouldn't know how to divide the long bottom drawer in that scenario. But I got graph paper! Thank you, GreenDesigns. Comments (14)I ended up using the plastic bins. Since I didnÂt want to spend new money on these, I went around the house and ferreted out the ones I had, and consolidated the contents to free up some bins. I didnÂt have enough for everything, but for the rest IÂll wait until something turns up. I donated about a third of the tablecloths too. Being frugal is work! I checked a few stores before going that route though, and found that not only have plastic storage bins gone way up in price, but most seem to have things like fancy or locking lids, bulky handles, etc. Beats me why a plastic box needs to be redesigned like the latest car model. The basic ones I repurposed are much more functional....See Moreshutters vs wood blinds to keep the light and view outside
Comments (34)They are only three months old so look new. Absolutely no problems and the quality is very good. They operate very smoothly. I did custom order through Penney's. I first did my internet research and had several quotes online. The sales rep was able to beat all my quotes. It was nice to able to see the various blinds in person, then I brought home the sample books to match color. That proved difficult with the tiny samples but I wanted neutral and am happy with the results. You have the choice of separate head rails like I did, or a single head rail. They are easy to clean though I have not needed to yet. I haven't decided if I will put my drapes back up as I'm enjoying the clean look right now. Mine are 3/8" double cell, 40"x72". Each blind was $268 +tax. The top-down/bottom-up function does increase the price but I feel it was worth it for my application. Comments (17)Beeps and others, thanks for the input. I agree, a 12" height wouldn't work well, because it would end up being 1.5 tiles high in an 18" backsplash. I'd rather do a tile that's either 6" high or 9" high. I like minimal grouting, so 3 rows of 6" is probably what I would end up with. We do have one very long run that the 24" length might look good on. I'll have to see what my husband thinks about that. His reaction to the 12x24" tile was "It's the size of a dinner tray!" LOL I also agree that a running bond pattern would not be good. I would plan to just stack them (or whatever that's called). :-) What does anyone think of turning them so they're vertical behind the range? Would that look silly? The range is in our very long run, so it would break up the horizontal highway. I am going to visit a tile place that carries the Daltile and see if they have a sample of this for me to borrow. Our cabinets get delivered tomorrow, so I will finally have a sample door to start holding things up to. Does anyone have pictures (or know where there are some) of larger format tile in kitchen backsplashes?...See MoreEileen Moore
