Yes it is beautiful, but it was filmed in Canada, Alberta and BC. Equally gorgeous.

Parts of it are incredibly scenic. And other parts are just bare open land with few aesthetic features. Except for maybe a herd of antelope :-)

We're twenty minutes south of the Wyoming / Colorado border. It's nicer here.

When I was 19 I traveled the US with a friend after a gap semester working and changing my career path. (back then it was called drop-out, 😂). Starting in NewOrleans where I was living at the time. Hit almost every state in two months.

Alberta Canada is very cinematic and used for many films for various reasons. Less gack. Electric wires and poles, etc. In the 2005 days, post production, removing all the visual distraction, was very costly. Still is but not like those days.

We are partial to coastal locations but there is something for everyone.

So ugly are the industrial parks where you find Costco and big box stores but fortunately those are clumped together.

Montana is also amazing. Called "Big Sky Country" for a reason. Just seems "big". And then there is Idaho and along the Snake River....not to mention Amazing things in Utah and Arizona.
Y'all come....there are lots of us who will volunteer to show you around.

Or you can go to Valles Caldera in NM where longmire was filmed. Looks just like WY only with better weather.

My fav areas of the US

- Coastal Washington, Puget Sound up to the San Juan Islands (and continuing up the coast of Canada). So many islands, inlets, forests, rocky pocket beaches and tidepools, connected by hundreds of miles of sheltered water dotted with ferries and sailboats. I’d like to retire here, probably in Port Townsend.

- Central California coast, Santa Barbara to Half Moon Bay, including Monterey, Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, etc. To me this is God’s country, with rolling coastal hills, live oaks, blue waves on isolated beaches.

- Sierra Nevada mountains, especially the eastern side where the range shoots straight up from the valley floor, and the glacier-cut cliffs of Yosemite Valley where I was married. This area was memorialized by photographers Ansel Adams and later Galen Rowell.

- A vaguely defined range of mountains that I generally call “the Rockies”, (which in my imperfect geography includes the Tetons in Wyoming), studded with ski towns like Aspen, Jackson Hole, Crested Butte, ranches, small cowboy towns, and some of the most imposing wilderness areas in America. Grizzly bears, gray wolves, wild trout and mountain men still live here.

- The coastal towns of New England, such as Essex in Connecticut, Boothbay Harbor in Maine, and many others. Our country’s oldest buildings are the small inns and houses in New England, and America’s history permeates these towns. This is a fishing and seafaring area, with weathered workboats and glorious sailing ships, people work in the weather with their hands, and it feels grounded and pragmatic in a way that seems increasingly rare in the US.

- New York City. America’s most storied city, the setting for countless movies and TV shows, dramatic events and social movements, all the glittering excess and impoverished failings of America in one place. When I was little, it was amazing to be able to go from places like Rockefeller Center, the Plaza on Central Park, the Met and the Guggenheim, and the luxury shops of 5th Avenue, to tiny ethnic shops and basement counter culture booksellers, humble street stalls and Chinatown noodle houses, and in the course of an afternoon.

Apologies to all the parts of the USA that I don’t know well, I’ve only spent a little time in the South, Midwest and Texas. I’m basically a coastal dweller, as an adult I’ve always lived somewhere near an ocean.

My world most of the year...so much later in life...no people or tourism. No condos or coastal clogs full of tourists. Three hikes within a mile from our home...this one is special...

Yes to Wyoming, too. Yellowstone was the first national park for good reason. Bryond the park are the magnificence of the mountains, the dry high plains, the vast sky with amazing Summer displays of lightning. I can't speak to the East, but from the Rockies west to the Pacific, from the Yukon to the Sea of Cortez, there is a vast grandeur of natural magnificence. Come spend half a year.

LindaC, Big Sky is a thriller tv show, and I didn't know until you said, why it was called that. It's set in Montana, but actually filmed in B.C.

Yes, Wyoming is that beautiful. Yellowstone is the most unique and awe inspiring place I've ever visited although my own Michigan has the spot that was voted "Most Beautiful". Every place has it's own beauty, of course, but I'll admit I'm far more a "National Parks" kind of person than I am a City tourist.

Because Montana is awesome. Literally. Glacier is my favorite national park. Or... I should say favorite outside California. Yosemite is home, but really tops for grandeur, in any season.

Yeah, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons are pretty awesome. Jackson Hole is a nice town. Don't know much about the rest of WY.

A co-worker and his wife retired a few years ago. Kids out of college, they were no longer attached to where the had lived for 20 years. Sold everything. New SUV and a small Airstream and hit the road. At the time they planned a year at least traveling and settling when they found a retirement spot. Interesting idea.

Wonder where they ended up. Maybe he is on Facebook. A bit of a grumbly old fart, but still think about him on occasion.

Very few places have the year round 55º-75ºF perfect efficient temps. Minor heat needs and no AC.

My parents spent a winter in SanMiquel Mexico for that reason. Babysat two dogs,😂. He does not like pets at all but did get a bit attached. The home came with a maid, a gardener, and two prepared meals a week by the maid. I visited a couple weeks. Sweet deal.

During covid I started researching January through March for places to rent when we retire. Maybe someplace different each year. (warm, not hot). So do not like hot.
