Hi Terri, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm assuming its planted in the ground...I live in central FL and I personally have had better luck with mine planted in a container(this is the 3rd Christmas)I'm reblooming it. Having said that I have a neighbor that has one planted very close to the wall of his house and it re-blooms every year for the three years I've lived here. It gets bright indirect light and the wall protects it from the cold weather, although it was severely damaged this last freeze, but because he had it planted very close to the house and he covered it...its come back from the roots. I trim my potted one twice a year...once around Feb/Mar after its done reblooming and it starts to get scraggly. I trim it severely to keep it compact...I trim it so its only appx. 5-6" tall...after several weeks and I see new growth, I start fertilizing it with an all purpose fert. at half strenght once or twice a week, then around June, I prune it again...but not as severely basically just taking a couple of inches off just to keep it bushy. Then around Oct. 1, I start the darkening process. I've personally never rooted poinsettia cuttings, but I'm sure it can be done? I'm in USDA zone 10b/Sunset 22. I think it was actually a true jasmine--that's what it was labeled when I bought it; it just bloomed only-at-night. I went out to take a photo this morning, and saw healthy-looking mealybugs all over the container. So I think I solved the problem now: I just trashed the whole thing. Thanks anyway for your help.

In this case, I'm afraid to say that you might not be able to revive it. The orange "moon cactus" is grafted to the green stem. The orange piece cannot live on its own, as it cannot produce chlorophyll. It appears that the green base of your plant has died or dried out. It certainly looks that way. In my experience, the top bit, the orange part will live for a little while, but will go south soon. They are not meant to live forever, they can't really in their configuration, but generally it is the top grafted part that usually dies first. To maintain the health of the rest of the plants, I'm sure the other forum members will suggest to repot them individually in well draining media in pots with drainage holes. Grafted moon cactuses are generally easy to come by, so maybe you want to try another go of it? Good luck!

Post a photo of it. If the rhizome is white and firm it should grow back.
