Icebox cheesecake. Made it for Christmas Eve dinner -- it's usually a summer-only recipe but wanted cheesecake and I don't have the magic touch needed for a baked cheesecake.

Sugar cookie recipe... as old as time. I haven't made these in years, but oldest daughter asked for the recipe a couple of days ago. They look delicious... in an email.

I didn't forget it, but it had been a long time since I'd made my mother's recipe for “chicken patties”. I just bake them. Made it a few weeks ago. I was going to make a mushroom gravy, and decided at the last minute that I didn't like the look of the mushrooms, so went scrounging in the kitchen there. Ended up with a marsala cream sauce which went very well.

Today I rediscovered equipment. I was wracking my brain for something to chill and transport the Yorkshire pudding batter in that I wouldn't have to transfer to a pitcher. Lightbulb moment, I even remembered right where it was. A real Tupperware lidded batter bowl. I think it came from my parents' camping supplies. I was given a box from that some years back. It's not from my childhood—that one was pink and had no lid. I do seem to remember using this one a couple of times, but I couldn't say for what... it's perfect. This is why I keep things.

Certain recipes were always "on the box"...or jar or can or whatever, so you didn't need to write it down. I learned the hard way. I always used the recipe for angel food cake on the box or Swans Down flour....until one day they stopped printing it. I had to find someone who had an old box to find the recipe!

In 2011, I rediscovered the book Cooking with Gourmet Grains that a roommate in San Francisco had thrown in the trash when I was in Mexico for the winter. He said he threw it away because it had gotten scorched by the toaster oven. However, the book was still completely readable, and I never forgave him for that. I had used that book when I was baking desserts for Island Restaurant in 1977 - a job that I kept for slightly less than a year. I was very happy when I was able to replace that book.

One of my favorite recipes in that book is for pie crust, which only has three ingredients: 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, and 1/2 butter. You mix the butter and cottage cheese together and then add the flour. It is difficult to over-mix this dough, which makes it very easy to make.

There are several that I might use that got lost in the move 4 years ago, but nothing that stands out.

One thing I've lost however was a Cooking Light recipe for cream of whatever using rice, chicken or vege broth and that's all I remember!

I remember I could make cream of anything ....broccholi, mushroom, chicken etc etc for probably 1/4 the calories of a can of cream of ******

I had to think about this one..... for me, rediscovering cheese soufflés and remembering how easy they are and learning about twice baked ones that I wasn't convinced would be good but they are.
