Back scratcher: multi uses

I use it lots to reach for my afternoon blanket for nap time.

Pull shoes closer to put on if I have kicked them off when I come in.

Glenda, we found the opposite! We have a long-handled shoehorn from Ikea that also makes a good backscratcher and "retriever"!

Promo "credit" card that come in the mail. I use them on messy pots and pans to scrape out grossness.

Maifleur, I'll often use my phone screen as a night light, if I'm coming to bed after DH is asleep, or if I need to get up in the middle of the night. I open a "white" page like Google search, and it's just enough light to maneuver by, kind of like a small candle. Even with the brightness turned down (I always turn it way down at night).

We have little magnetic clips for the refrigerator, especially to hold the shopping list. When we go to the store, the clip comes, too, to hold the list to the metal shopping cart (doesn't work Target's plastic carts, though.)

All those CDs that AOL used to send out? We use them outside to repel woodpeckers, and inside under candles.

Tobacco sticks used for tomatoes, peas and beans in the garden. Also used to keep my dogs out of the low raised beds. Using the grate and covering off my old demolished firepit to cover my strawberries. It may be working to keep the birds away but something else is eating my strawberries, probably the chipmunk that's been lurking in my yard.

I think everyone uses this: old plasticware/old cottage cheese and other food containers for painting with a brush. I reuse old vinyl blinds for plant markers in the garden. Used plastic forks to keep creatures away for tender young plants.

Old t-shirts for rags. Old towels, same thing.

Figured out my 2 gallon berry picking bucket is great for a lot of sous vide stuff.

The light on my fitness tracker makes a great night light.

I was just clicking my phone on to use at night but the first time I used the light on the phone I was looking for a straight pen.

Kathsgarden look for slime trails under the strawberry leaves both slugs and snails like some types of strawberries. Of course a tiny tortoise does too.

I use my Kindle to find my way to bed.

Seeing the bread tag post above reminded me of a handy hint I read a few months ago: You know how you can't find the end on your roll of tape? Every time you use the tape, just tuck a bread tag under the end--now the end is easy to find for next time!

I use a roll of masking tape for labeling packages, freezer foods, etc. so this hnit has saved me lots of frustration!

With tape rolls, I find it easier to fold down and under a small amount at the end. No extra pieces to keep track of and very easy to find and use the next time. It makes its own tab that way and if you're applying it to something, leave that tab as an easy place to grab it when removing it.

I don't use my phone that much, and I keep it turned off much of the time to save the battery, but I do use it as a magnifying glass, especially to read the tiny engravings on sewing machine needles that specify the size. I take a close-up photo of the end of the needle in bright light and then zoom in on that photo on my phone. Even then it is difficult to read the size.

A new use I have learned is to color code sewing machine needles with different colors of nail polish, and then keep a record of which color means what. I have lots of colors, including black, yellow, blue, turquoise, green, purple, metallic gold, etc, but I do not have red, and so I am going to have to get some of that. Mainly because I want to mark some of my faucets to indicate which direction to turn them for hot water. I've already marked the cold side with blue nail polish, but I think it will look better if it also has a red dot. The faucet in the kitchen no longer has the original color coded marks - I don't know what happened to it.

Phone as mirror. I was in Costco and a mom and daughter were trying in jackets, bemoaning the lack of mirrors in the store. I suggested they take a picture with the phone. They slapped their heads, why they hadn't thought of that.

Even better than taking a picture is setting the phone on video and using the back facing camera (as with a selfie) It's like a mirror. I've seen women applying makeup that way. You know, the classy ones who do that in public, no matter where they are.

Maifleur, no slugs, this is in a large pot that is about 2 feet off the ground. I do have them in my Ruth Stout potato bed, though. Something has also decimated my turnip greens.

Old white washcloths become dishcloths. I set them aside out of the washer, then bleach the bunch prior to washing.

I don't even try to open most bottles anymore; just use the pliers that live in the kitchen junk drawer.

I clip coupons to my shopping list with a clamp clip and use the clip to keep the list visible on my purse in a shopping cart. (I also like bpath's magnetic clip idea, but my fridge has a cabinet wood front, so no magnets there.) If I hold the list I will lose it several times in each shopping trip when I need to use both hands on something, then walk off without it.

Like Elmer, I fold under a bit at the end of a roll of tape. I'm going to need to cut the tape when I use it next; can trim off that little bit.

Now I'm hungry for turnip greens! Haven't had them in ages.

For marking hot vs cold faucets ... I loop a blue rubber band around the cold side.

I do not think it is recommended any more kathgarden but twenty years ago the garden club I belonged to had a push to grow turnips for deer. The idea they would eat the turnip greens and leave the rest alone. It only sort of worked. The deer would eat the turnip greens then stay and browse the rest. Next time it rains look for hoof prints. Before anyone states that deer do not live in cities it only depends on the city. Every year there are stories of deer in the heart of major cities.

Binder clips make really good bag clips for potato chip bags, dry cat food bags, etc.

I use binder clips to secure my halloween or Christmas lights to the ceiling in my office. They work amazingly well for that.

I use empty glass bottles and jars in said decor. I dye them, then add labels and other fiddle faddle to suit the holiday they are intended for and they are perfect.

At the office, I don't wear a mask the full 8 hours, as I am mostly alone. But I need to have it handy at all times. I ordered some magnetic clips that were advertised for closing potato chip bags That can then be stuck to a refrigerator. They have a super strong neodymium magnet. DH also saves all the tiny neodymium magnets from the phone pouches he wears (after they wear out). I wear the clip on my blouses, with the tiny magnet inside my blouse, clip outside. Perfect holder for my mask. It's about 2" long.
