How many new plants have you aquired this year? Do you do this?
Comments (17)Mike, First I want to say, the plants I received, beginning Jan 1, 2010, were in 3-4" containers, bulbs and cuttings. Only a handful were larger, meaning 8" to 1' tall. Total: 58. :) :( Marguest, your Banana Tree is beautiful. The colors amazing. There's even a pup. Did you find it on Ebay? Mike, to answer a few questions. I MUST stay away from Ebay..It's one addicting site. Not only do they have great deals on plants, but plant supplies. There's also a few online nurseries I browse every other wk or so. The internet makes it too easy to shop for such an exciting hobby. A few clicked keys, next thing, a package is at your front door? One word of Warning for those who really want to stop buying plants.. Well, an attempt. Do NOT sign up for nursery News Letters. It's convenient, swaying us to their site, displaying their wares. Hear the clicking keys to Paypal? lol. As for local nurseries, fortunately, there are two that sell very very nice and rare specimens..luckily, opposite directions, both a long distance drive. An hour on non-congested days, 1.5-2 hours during 9-5, Rush Hour traffic. Although, traffic has gotten so heavy the past five years, the only time to go anywhere with time to spare is between midnight and 5am. Problem is, the stores are closed. lol. Our grocery store, Jewel's, always has plants for sale. Mostly, basic plants like Spaths, certain Dracaenas, etc. My problem arises when they have dollar sales. 3-4" potted plants for 1.00. Every so often, they'll have a rarer specimen. Buy 3, pot them up, and you have a lovely plant for 3.00. Four years ago, they had, mixed in with other dollar plants, Schefflera 'brassaia/actinophylla, a plant I hadn't seen in years...last one) I grabbed it up fast. lol. That's about it. Not too bad for 9 months. lol. Toni...See MoreOT - Too many cleaning products - How many do you have?
Comments (28)I won't even begin to list how many cleaning products are in my house. It's. Absolutely. Terrifying. That being said, I'm working on getting rid of much of it and using more natural/earth friendly methods. One thing that I am having a tough time giving up is my toilet bowl cleaner with bleach. I just haven't found anything that makes me feel like the toilet is as clean as when I use some bleach based product. Just mixed up a batch of baking soda, essential oils (eucalyptus and peppermint), a little bit of Dawn dishwashing liquid, and enough water to make a paste. This was used to scrub the tub which gets absolutely horrible because it's an old porcelain tub (but the finish was messed up from the previous owners)...it got it as clean as the harsher cleansers I've used with about the same amount of effort. Bonus is that it smelled lovely, way better than most cleaning products you can buy in the store. Looking forward to hearing more about some of the alternate cleaning products that people use....See MoreDo you have a CPAC mask?
Comments (15)By the way, I've not found that doctors are one speck of help when it comes to the fitting and operation of the equipment. None! You need to spend time with the various technicians. One sleep clinic I went to had one kind of machine that they sold and they had a staff technician....no nurse, no doctor.....as the instructor. She was so so. The clinic I'm going to now utilizes a good medical supply business for fittings and excellent instruction. Those professionals get their information about settings and recommended type of mask from the doctor....but that's it. I've been amazed at the difference in quality of service. One thing I have to mention to people who are new to CPAP. It's imperative that you follow the directions for cleaning and sanitizing. Use a "green " dish soap for routine washings in the sink, making sure that hoses get cleaned on the inside. The vinegar rinses are essential at least once a week, though I dip my nasal insert into a vinegar/water solution every morning. Use distilled water only for the water chamber....not only for the machine itself, but for you. I'm mentioning this because of a fellow customer I met in the waiting room of the medical supply company. We both had our machines with us and he asked to see mine. He and his wife oohed and aahed over mine but were shocked to find out that it was two years old. Older than his machine. They showed me theirs and it was disgusting! Covered with dust and the hoses were horrifying looking...with stuff growing on the inside of the hoses. I simply told him what he should be doing ....they are his lungs, for cryin' out loud!!...See MoreFloof - Local Bacon, what do you have?
Comments (27)There are a lot of ways to respond, watchme, but here's one: Q- What kind of bacon do you like? A - Bacon? No, we don't eat it anymore, we're concerned about the health risks. There's nothing more to it than that, with a bit more information filled in. That's normal in conversation. As far as your saying "some of the oldest, healthiest posters here are those that pretty much eat what they want." I suspect some (maybe many) of the posters here are smokers. Do you think that disproves the consensus of opinion among all the experts that smoking is bad for human health in many ways? Or since people here who eat bacon or diets unhealthy in other ways aren't dead yet (and they'are numerous, judging from many comments made from time to time about what's for dinner or what's being eaten) , that that suggests that those who try to eat more carefully and avoid dangerous foods are wasting their time with something that's unnecessary? Or that isn't important for good health and longevity? I hope not....See Morelucillle
