Annie, I have trouble sleeping some nights and occasionally wake up at 3 AM. I usually stay up for about an hour or an hour and a half and go back to bed. If I go to bed too early, it is worse!

maire, we rent one. But I'm looking forward to quartering those big ones by hand to get them down to a size we can handle. The big ones are at least 30" in diameter. There's something very satisfying about splitting wood with a sledge and a wedge.

I considered getting DH a gas powered log splitter for Christmas. We used to borrow from friends. Seems silly now that we are 60+ he's back to splitting by hand!

Annie - I'm impressed! Have you tried a grenade-style wedge? DH
is getting a new one for Christmas since one of the boys left ours
outside and we haven't found it. He now spray paints them every now and
then with OSHA red hoping they'll be more obvious in the grass.

maire, no I haven't seen those. We have the old wedges that belonged to DH's grandparents and are still using them. Those look like they split into 4 which would make quick work of smaller pieces, but I suspect not the monsters we have to deal with...very often it takes at least 3 wedges to get these puppies apart.

Annie, before you split all that wood, maybe your DH could make you a couple of these. Looks like you have all the right sizes. You could have Mr and Mrs Deighnaugh for outdoor decorations. I saved this photo because I thought it would be cute if we (or neighbors) need to cut some trees in the next year or so.

A UTV I purchased yesterday for the farm.

Its actually not my picture, but it is now my UTV. I'll replace the picture with one I've taken in the next day or so.

Bob, those things are so much fun to ride in. They have two up at the farm where my horse was and it was great to get to go out on the trails in the Kubota (the other was a different name) and ride around. Nice!!

I have an ugly toad also. He is supposed to be an outside toad but I like having him inside, among my houseplants. :)
