House/window color -- white/white or white/black?
Comments (7)Black. Its more period and no matter what you do in the future will always look good. Dark sashes improve the appearance of the windows as negative space on the facade. Black interior sashes also practically disappear when you look out the window (try it - look out a white framed window and a black framed window - see which one you notice and which one is practically not there.) Finally, white tends to look cheap - vinyl-looking, as you said. And why let a vinyl window company decide what color your windows are for you? I got a feeling youll get white from the way your post was written ......See MoreWhite vs Black Full-frame Replacement Windows
Comments (8)Marvin offers a replacement double hung in which you can have ebony sash with a white frame. They will also prefinish the interior in either white or black or a variety of stains from a clear coat to a dark espresso. Be aware that you are going to lose some glass area by replacing your sash kits with full frame replacements. Probably 3/4" on each side....See MoreReplacement window advice - black windows?
Comments (8)Ok, I think we can probably be swayed on keeping the cedar by painting the trim and siding, :), but the windows really need to be replaced. Many frames are rotting and are extremely drafty and difficulty to clean since the grills are on the outside of the glass both on the interior and exterior. I agree the black windows may not stand out much looking at the house now, but hoping with painted white trim and a medium gray on the siding they’ll stand out a bit more....See MoreWe plan to replace white vinyl windows with black vinyl.
Comments (1)Our neighbors have black outside and white inside and is a beautiful modern home…..although it’s probably wood not vinyl. We wanted that look too, I got a bit confused when ordering. I thought just the just the interior grills and sashes would be black and the casing would be white. ( they are wood as well)… not great for dogs nails!) Oops! The whole things were black. Could have been an awful mistake, but it looks good against our light walls. We did get vinyl in the bathrooms white on the interior and black exterior. It works well with our tile… got that right. Here’s a picture of the black windows from inside…it caused sleepless nights a first. I like it now, but we put in temporary blinds( that just stick in with command strips… because we needed privacy and found out that if we screwed holes in the windows, it voided our warranty!) I’ve seen it done in a lot of houses so I don’t think you will be unhappy with the results. I would recommend you look closely at samples of the vinyl windows very closely. I went to see them ( our builder had a sub he recommended). Look at the workmanship closely. The samples I saw were a bit disappointing… there was sloppy silicone caulk and gaps where there shouldn’t have been…we ended up using jeld wen windows instead. Pretty expensive though. Good luck....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
