Insert Marvin vs. full frame Pella replacement
Comments (1)pella windows will leak, stay away from them, there is a huge class action suit against them at the moment because they are leaking behind the aluminum cladding and rotting the windows marvin make a great product, also take a look at jeld-wen...See Moresplit frame vs. full frame window install
Comments (2)>>21 windows should equal 42 sashes. I don't get the 30. I should say 21 openings, some are double casement some are single, that's how the total of 30 came about. They usually quote for each casement. >>What are your existing windows? Wood or metal? D/H or other? They are all wood with double glazed glass panes, traditional casement windows. >>You know they do make wood replacement windows that are made to fit right in your existing openings. Wihtout reducing the visible glass size? May be that's what this split frame construction is all about. you have to forgive my ignorance. >>Split frame installation just to save the shutters? Very much so. After spending on the windows there won't be any money left to get new set of shutters. Vendor group B said that they can't gurantee that the shutters will fit after full frame install. Split frame is the only road to take. The will leave the jamb extension in place so that the shutters aren't disturbed....See Moreblack windows vs white windows - whole house replacement
Comments (14)Replacement windows are usually smaller than the ones they replace, so you will be losing light if going that route. I'd also look into brands other than Pella. Their reputation is not great. You have a traditional colonial home. Don't try to make it something it's not with black windows. They have their place on some style of homes, but not yours. Stick with white. A nice compromise between what you want and what your husband wants (for your style home) would be grids on the upper portion of the double hung window and clear glass below. It's still appropriate for your home, but gives him a little of what he wants. They are usually a bit cheaper than the windows with grids on both sections. Like the photo below, but in white....See MoreShould I replace my white framed patio door with a black patio door?
Comments (20)I would be careful about the three-pane patio door you are considering. If the panes are too narrow (meaning if you are intending to decrease the size of the individual panes that you currently have, in favor of adding a third pane) the divide can end up looking like prison bars that block a lot of the incoming liight and obstruct your view due to added trim around the individual panes. Also, consider how you will dress the wider door for light control and privacy--patio doors are often a challenge. Your current patio door doesn't line up at the top with the window above the sink, and the window in the adjacent living room? Maybe a taller patio door would work better than wider patio doors? If you have two-lite windows in the adjoining room I would keep it consistant, both in color and number of lites.....See MoreWindows on Washington Ltd
